- from the painting mess at our house. I can only stand so many days of stuff out of place. I can't cook, because the backs plash is being painted - no grease allowed. There was a lot of patching and priming to do, so they will be back on Mon/Tues. Even with the A/C on, it takes a lot of time for things to set. So DH & I are packing up and heading to Springfield IL for the weekend. We'll catch a ballroom dance Sat eve, stay over, then go to an indoor target range for some practice on Sunday. Our hotel is near a great BBQ place, so I'm taking a dance skirt with elastic waste - LOL.

DDIL and 2 GrDs had our last summer girl's outing. Went to a children's museum 40 miles away, had a great lunch at a sidewalk cafe. Eldest girl starts school next Thursday - way too soon. I'm old school - shouldn't start until after Labor Day. Remember when Memorial Day and Labor Day were the "bookends" of summer. Now my DDIL has had short school meetings for each girl over the past 2 weeks. I remember vacationing right thru Labor Day, then rushing off to school.

Yep, this is the year the youngest starts daily kindergarten. Last year she was home 2 days, so I would go visit in the afternoon, play with her, then pick up older girl from school. She thought this was so cool - would holler to everyone "this is my Grammy". I originally hoped to have a weekly outing with the girls during the summer, but all of June and most of July was filled with summer camps, etc. I'm feeling more like the lyrics in this lovely oldie (love the Willie Nelson version, but also have Sinatra's recording) -

"Oh, it's a long long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turn leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you

These precious days I'll spend with you
