Busy Weekend

This has turned out to be a very busy weekend for me.  ds-Mike & d-i-l-Annette come up Friday night.  They & the kids are enjoying the last weekend at the lake.  That means that I have their dog at my house.  However, I've been down at the lake most of the time too.  Saturday was spent down at the beach, just sitting in the sand and reading and visiting.  Part of the time we were out in the boat as the kids so enjoy being pulled on the tube behind the boat.  Sunday there was a horseshoe tournament.  There are two horseshoe pits at the resort and everyone that wants to participate is paired up with a partner.  It's a double elimination tournament, so you have to loose two matches before you're out.  It lasted from noon til about 5:30.  My partner and I made it to the quarter finals and I even got one ringer.  I ended up playing four games, which really tired me out.  In the evening there was a pot luck gathering as everyone is trying to empty out their refrigerators since this is the last weekend of fun.  Next weekend all the men come back to take out all the piers and boat stations to be stored for the winter.

We have had a couple of situations during the weekend.  On Saturday dgd-Beth was walking barefoot and stepped on something that embedded itself into the heel of her foot.  We took her up to the cabin of one of the ladies that is a nurse.  It just so happened that as we were entering her cabin, the doctor that also stays at the resort was just arriving for the weekend.  He's a surgeon and came along in with us.  We thought it was a fish hook that was burried in the heel but it turned out to be a rusty piece of iron.  When they still thought it was a fish hook with the barb enbedded, they had decided they needed to use a local ansthetic and she had that and a syringe on hand.  Otherwise the doc was going to run down to his office (about 40 minutes away) to get them.  As it turned out, they just cleaned it up real good, used antiseptic, and while some held her down, the doc pulled it out.  Lucky for us that there are medical people there or we would have had to go to the emergency room.

Then, Sunday morning I got a frantic call from dd-Cheryl.  It seems that she had let out her dog at about 6 o'clock in the morning and he started barking.  She didn't want the neighbors to be annoyed, and went out to get him in.  However, since there was another dog in the yard next door, he didn't want to come in and by the time she had him subdued and brought into the house, he had chewed her up a bit.  She had several cuts across her knuckles and two deeper puncture wounds that didn't want to stop bleeding.  Also, her arms and legs were a little scratched and bruised from him clawing at her.  By the time I got there about 7:15, her hand was all swollen up and badly bruised.  She was very upset that she wasn't able to control her dog and that the neighbors probably saw her wrestling with him trying to subdue him.  BTW, he's a big shepherd mix.  Later, she realized that she probably hasn't had a tetnus shot for a while, and called the doctor's office.  They refused to take her as they said that all dog bites have to go through the hospital.  She got a tetnus shot and a prescription for an antibiotic.  They called the police department to report it and she was forced to go to the police station to make a report and the police came out to the house to see the dog and to make sure that he was registered and had his rabies shots up to date, which, of course he did.  She also was ordered to quarantee the dog for 10 days and told that she has to take him to the vet on Tuesday, again in about five or so days and again after ten days to have him professionally checked for rabies.

So, as you can see, it's been a rather interesting weekend.  Today I'm a bit sore from all the horseshoe throwing and still a bit tired.  I do plan to go down to the lake again shortly as I'd like one last tube ride before everything is packed up and put away for the season.  My grandkids call me the tubeing grandma.  They love to see me flying along behind the boat.  I love the feel of the wind in my hair and the water spraying up at me.  If I'm going to get down there, I'd better get moving.

Hope you all are having a good weekend.  See ya later......

Wow, Winter must come early up your way. The boaters will be out on the lakes here until mid-October.

Scary medical stuff going on with your family, so glad they all could get help quickly.

There still will be nice days for boating, swimming, and the like, but the lady that owns the resort wants all the piers taken in the weekend after Labor Day weekend and everyone should be moved out that day at the latest.
