Anybody Building An Ark Yet?

I got a phone call from ds-Mike Saturday morning and that's what he asked me.  I didn't know what he was talking about because we'd only had about a half inch of rain overnight.  It seems like the Chicago area got hit big time by rain.  Last night on tv they said that Chicago area had gotten eight inches of rain already and there would be about five inches more to come yet.  I think that what's to come is from the remnants of Ike.

Darby, did you get the heavy rain up by you too?  Mike said that their subdivision retention pond was overflowing and that drivers on Peck Road were going through water that was about hitting the bottom of their vehicles.  Annette called the authorities becasuse they were afraid someone would come racing through and end up right into the pond.  The city came out and put up high water signs.

Jackie, I imagine you're already getting rain from Ike.  Hope it passes you quickly.  I don't think we'll get any of that up here.  We had light rain and drizzle all day yesterday and it looks the same out there this morning but, I think it's just the cold front that went through that's causing it.

You all have a good day and try to stay dry.

I talked to my DSis in No. IL this morning. The retention pond across from there house was almost up to sidewalk level. If it overflows, her basement will likely be flooded. Good thing she has all the bridal dresses hung from hooks on the ceiling beams. But everything else is at floor level. I told her wake up the family and start hauling the rest of the stuff upstairs. I've been in a flooded house and once it starts coming in, there's no stopping. We had do float DSs out on an inflatable raft in chest high water.

As for mid-IL, I just went to basement to bring up a box of peaches from DSs tree and the bottom was soaked! DH didn't check that side of the basement this morning....

Must make a quick run to the store for supplies to make peach pies for freezer - no crust, just the filling.
