Hello Ladies:

I am reading:  'On Strike for Christmas'.  I am really enjoying it.  Some of the characters I know and some are me at times during the holidays, some are my DS and some of the characters are my DH.  It is kind of a kick to see myself in writing.

So this year I hereby promise to be less "Martha Stewart".  Hope you are all well and your week is going well.

Hi Lou,

I have not read the book you mention, but you make it sound interesting. I will have to look for it as soon as I finish the series I am reading now.

Hi Cal,

I used to cook Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for all my immediate family, but several years ago I turned Thanksgiving dinner over to my youngest daughter. That is such a relief. I still love to cook the Christmas dinner, but may also turn that over to her one day...LOL

I'm the reverse, Becky. When DH & I were first married and away at college, we couldn't afford the train fare home our first Thanksgiving. We bought a turkey (remember .39/lb??), I stuffed it with cheap bread from the day-old bakery and DH declared it the best ever. Afterwards, we took the leftover bread to a local pond and fed the ducks. I vowed I'd always cook him the same dinner. We varied one year when DS was in the service and had a new baby - just had to go for the holiday. DH complained all the way home about the stuff DDIL put in the stuffing. After that, my DMIL came for a visit each year. After she passed and kids were out of the house, I let everyone know when dinner would be served and if they wanted to show up, just tell me ahead of time so I could get a bigger bird. Over the years it turned into an all day buffet, depending on what in-laws were doing. Last year was grim, as youngest DS & DH were not speaking, so eldest DS had the dinner and DH stayed home alone. Now, youngest DS was quick to let me know they really wanted to come over for the dinner. As this is my first year of retirement, it will be so much easier for me. Luckily, DH & I love leftovers. Once DGrKids arrived, we told the DSs to just tell us what time to show up. Now they alternate the event, depending on eldest's work schedule.

Oops - I didn't proofread very well. I meant that we go to DSs for Christmas now. I don't decorate much, as DH is most uncooperative and my aging back rebels against all that climbing around.
