I had to go to the lakeshore today to get two of the three crown preps I had done last week, repaired. (That's another entire post.) About half way there, it started snowing. How pretty, I thought. And it got thicker, and started to build up on the interstate, and by the time I got to the dentist, there was 5" on the ground and cars sliding all over the place! Having lived in Michigan for over 40 years, I'm used to this stuff, though I really don't like it. You slow down, you take your foot off the gas, lay off the brakes and back off the guy in front of you. It's not rocket science.
It was almost funny to see people sliding through intersections, bumping each other, spinning their tires, zigzagging all over the road and having some spectacular acrobatics in the median! I think the young people are not being taught how to drive anymore. They learn the laws, (except about tailgating and hogging the left lane) but they don't know how to operate the vehicle they are driving. They don't know how to get out of a slide, start on a slippery hill, or how to stop a car in snow! How scary to be on the winter roads with them!

I love Hounds!

When my eldest DS was stationed with the USAF in Arkansas, they had 1" of snow and closed the whole town. He called to say that he and DDIL were the only people on the road. The base had snow plows and a PX for food, so they weren't really needing anything. He thought it was hilarious to see people sliding off the road on so little snow. When DH was teaching DSs to drive, he took them out in all kinds of weather to practice. They still fondly recall the time DH took them to an empty parking lot to do "donuts". One trip I made with youngest DS was down to Ark. on the Thanksgiving weekend. He had just gotten his license, so I let him drive most of the way home. He was doing so well, that I fell asleep, woke up in mid-IL where a big interstate fed onto ours. We were in a blinding snowstorm with traffic on all sides and couldn't get off if we had wanted to. DS was clutching the wheel with both hands, all I could do was roll down my window, stick my head out and let him know how close he was to the edge. We made it home safely and we were both very proud of his driving.
We had snow flurries today, but it's still too warm to stick. If it snows and the sun shines, it keeps my spirits up. It's the gray, damp days that get me down.

Hi Barbara:
We don't normally get snow this early in Washington.
Here in south central Michigan we only got a dusting of snow, but it's so cold...19* (-9 wind chill).
