Some time ago we scaled back the toy giving to the grands at Christmas time. They have so many relatives that the pile of toys was embarrassing and parents were at wits end figuring out where to put it. Now we give more at each one's birthday. This made the holiday shopping so much easier for me when I was still in the office all day. I make new pillowcase of fleece for each child, plus buy a toy. I really lucked out today and found the last 2 Jr. Mechanic trucks on the shelf for DGrGrSons - all plastic with battery powered drill, wheels that come off, etc. It was like old times shopping for DSs when they were little. Got so in the mood that I got on the Internet and ordered the Fur Friends newborn animals for the little girls. I bought one for DGrGrDs birthday last week and the older girls loved it. It was a baby panda that made noises, then went to sleep and snored - LOL.
We also only exchange a token gift with the grownups - we all need to watch our $$ these days. My tradition is a book for each of the couples. This year it is "The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate". It's about knowing what "currency" says love to your mate, not what you THINK the person should need. Some of those ideas I wish I'd known long ago. I was so busy running an office that I didn't realize my DH needed more appreciation. Now I see the signs and praise generously. Just wish he could figure out what my "currency" is.
Got to catch the elimination show of Dancing/Stars now.

Now I can relax

i love the book idea, jacquie. infact i always look for good books for the kids. the last couple of years the two oldest grandkids got harry potter, now each one has the set.toys are off this year,i refuse to keep buying junk from china..junk that usually ends up on rummage sales or in the garbage. its hard buying them clothes also,as their getting to an age where they like to pick out their own style. my tastes and their tastes dont jive!i pick sales..i
