Do men get grumpy

Just wondering if, as a class, this happens with age. DH gets more and more irritated when things aren't "the way they're supposed to be". This means they are not they way HE remembers them. Anything can set him off. Today it was being required to have our 2 indoor cats vaccinated, then the cable company redesigned the lineups, now a tire on my car has a slow leak and must be repaired. This will lead him to gripe about everything. Watching the news is a disaster - he keeps such a running negative commentary going that I can't hear the news. I've read that men lose part of the brain which controls impulses as they age, but this is ridiculous. When we go to a store, I must ask him to please refrain from negative comments about everything on the shelf, the service, the prices. I sometimes just wander away to avoid hearing it. Don't know who he's trying to impress with these antics, but it ain't me.

I wish I could be more encouraging, but DH's Neurologist says that our brains do get

Jacquie:
I listened to my DH for two months complain that Germany was not the same.
apparently the answer is YES!! and age seems to reduce the previous compunctions we used to have
sorry for your very negative experience!
in his defense...the news has been AWFUL (oddly I found myself talking to the TV a lot during the elections ..ususally it was "he/she is full of sh**" LOL)
my response might be humor....(or perhaps "enough already") "I am sure if you were in charge it would be better"
suggest he write a letter with all his good ideas to whomever
ask :what would YOU do to change/correct whatever
but as one who does not deal well with change, I can sympathize!!
good luck, sweetie
vent here

I get the most irritated when he joins my watching the early morning new shows. I like to drink my tea and slowly come alive, sitting in the LR and petting a cat. His computer runs a test at 8 AM and he heads upstairs to wait it out. Of course he gripes about it interrupting him, I suggest that he reschedule the test, he ignores it. More fun to gripe, I guess. I'm just not ready for it that early. Now I wait 5 minutes, then excuse myself to go check my mail in my room.
I also got scheduled to tutor in the adult ed center on Tuesday mornings - will get me out of house. After I receive training next Spring I will keep busy with the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program for kids in foster system. I think I'm suffering from lack of contact with other adults, now that the wedding hoopla is over. At least we have company coming for Thanksgiving. The sad part about living in a college community is that so many of our friends move away over the years. I envy the gals who have a group of girlfriends. The years of juggling a full-time job, plus family obligations, left me with my only girlfriends who where actually business associates. Now that I'm retired, I don't hear from them and can understand. Most were younger than me and can't relate to retirement issues.
But - I am thankful for having a room that is totally mine with a door I can shut if needed. I did manage to get DH to accept that when I'm exercising, I don't want to be disturbed. Sometimes the time on the treadmill is the best of the day - LOL.
