Got Bit By The Bug

Yes, it's true, the Christmas bug bit me this weekend. Saturday I went to a craft show with dd-Cheryl and bought a Christmas arrangement for on top of my refrigerater, a couple of ornaments, and one Christmas gift. When we got back home I went to the basement and got my manger and figures up and have them arranged on the piano. Today ds-Jim was over and put the lights up on the roof line of my house. I put the string of garland & lights in front of the house and put the greens and lights in the front planter. I checked the lights for the bushes in front and remembered that I had to toss some last year that were damaged. So, we went to town and I bought enough to cover the bushes. My Christmas cards are out and waiting to be addressed. Tonight we're suppose to get one to two inches of snow, which will put me in the mood even more.

Oh Kaci,
Kaci:
I too thought that the flu bug had hit, but I am very glad you are well.
I would love to send you some of the snow and also some of the cold.
Kaci,
I have also gotten bitten with that Christmas bug. I actually got many presents bought yesterday and I even surprised myself on that. I also got my Christmas cards out with anticipation(that may be too strong a word) of getting them addressed and mailed early this year..We shall see on that one..LOL
I bet your house will look so festive very soon and (awwwwww) that snow sounds beautiful.
You are lucky to have someone give a hand - my DH has always been a Scrooge about the holiday. We never give parties and the Christmas dinner was switched to DSs house when they had children. I did the house decorations all the years, but had cut it back considerably. When DH & DS weren't speaking last season, I didn't have the heart to put up a thing. Now I can't decide what to do this year. When I was working in the office it was a real chore. I do have the time now, but I'm getting LAZY - LOL. Everything is stored in the basement under the stairs and it's a major job to haul it out. I do have my shopping done - most done online. Now I need to create our card. Maybe this year I'll actually get them mailed before Christmas - LOL. I actually make a New Year's card. I worry about wishing all that ho ho ho on folks that have lost a loved one, are ill, or struggling.
Today I will do the dusting and bathroom cleaning in anticipation of company coming Thursday. I've been sampling wines and found a sparkling one called Prosecco that I really like better than most champagnes in my price range. I just like a little toast at the dinner. Not much food prep to do, as the white bread for stuffing was cut and seasoned days ago and has been drying in the oven. I'm thinking of roasting the turkey on the high heat method to get it done on time for midday meal. I planned on a smaller turkey, but made the mistake of taking DH shopping for the meal. He's like the guy in The Christmas Story - his eyes glaze at the sight of a 22 lb bird. I got it down to 16 lbs. The family arrive early and the GrDs are always hungry early. I solve that by setting out a basket of baked frozen mini-waffles, and provide jelly, peanut butter, cream cheese and a ham spread. That way they can help themselves to snack and let the grownups visit.
No snow here in mid-IL and not likely - temp is going to almost 50 today. When I was a kid growing up in Chicago my DF would take all the kids sledding in Garfield Park after the big dinner. He and DGF were a streetcar motormen, so didn't own a car. We would haul those sleds through a foot or more of snow to the park 6 blocks away.

Wowie Kaci it sounds like your one of the early christmas shoppers. My dd was finished in August, she is so good at that. Glad that you enjoying doing your Christmas early. But do have a nice Thanksgiving, hugs
