Black Friday

I refuse to go to the stores on the Friday after Thanksgiving...do any of you do that?
Some stores were even offering a 4am wake up call!!
It really reached madness near my old hometown on Long Island, shoppers trampled to death an employee of WalMart at Green Acres Mall , valley Stream,NY...where I shopped as a teen
unreal!
I never liked the crowds and the rush...I used to shop a bit all year
now I have toned it down except for the grandkids
what about you? have you changed your shopping/holiday habits this year?

I don't do the early morning thing and I usually don't shop on that day at all.
well, that sounds reasonable ,Kaci
and a nice time with dil
also you have to know your stores and your area
we are in a rural area and the nearest mall is 40 min away
but even there I would not expect the behavior displayed in the Long Island/near the city mall
I too have started some decorating, bringing the Fall stuff up to the attic, and the winter/Xmas stuff down, bit by bit

Hi Dutch--I am not a Black Friday shopper and I too was horrified by the death of that employee. We changed our gift giving two years ago. We now buy stocking stuffer gifts for the adults and only buy for the grandchildren. This year we are leaving here on the 15th so all the adults are getting gift cards (from stores that are not going out of business) in their stockings and will buy gifts for the east coast DGCs when we get there.
I hope you have a wonderful week and happy decorating :-)

P.S. I am attaching a picture of DDs friend's new pet turtle named Cirby. He is the prettiest turtle i have ever seen.
Hi Carol,
Although we see the family at Christmas, we cut back several years ago and give more at each birthday. When I was working 40 hr/wk, it was just too hard for me to shop, wrap, etc. The young Gr and GrGrKids get a small toy, plus a new bed pillow with homemade fleece pillow case. The pillow cases are easy to sew and the kids seem to enjoy a new snuggly. Teens get a check. Each grown couple gets a book they hopefully can use - cookbook, gardening, relationship. This year I am sending a large check to the local food bank in honor of each DSs. We are fortunate to have plenty and I feel the need to share. The one tradition I carry on is giving each person a tin of homemade cookies. The tykes love having their own stash, teens dig in and pig out. Now that I am retired it will be so much easier to do this baking. The cookies have family memories attached - very thinly rolled Swedish butter cookies in honor of my DFIL, no-bake rum balls in honor of late SIL, peanut blossoms (with chocolate kisses on top) as a memory of when DSs would "steal" a few kisses while we baked them. Now they laugh and know I looked away.

Dutch:
I never shop on Black Friday.
well that IS a cute turtle! LOL what kind is it?
I didn't go to the mall Friday but I did shop online
that was enough!
your gift plan is wise
perhaps we should do that
we have mutually agreed with friends we used to exchange with to NOT exchange gifts anymore
hugs
