Why I retired -

Temp here is 12, wind chill makes it 0, the furnace can't get the house above 65. Tues. A.M. is my volunteer classroom tutoring gig, but I'm reminding myself that it IS volunteer, the teachers are the ones who must show up. I want to put on my warm clothes and stay in. I went out to scrape the ice from my car on Monday and my chest tightened right up. Plus, half the students have colds and I really don't want to be sick over the holidays. I keep telling myself this is my reward for all the years of having a stiff upper lip and going out no matter what. I once worked a mile from home, walked to work in nice weather. Part of the way was over train tracks. We had a blizzard and you know who thought she had to be a pioneer woman and tromp to work. When I got there, I had to turn off the alarm - no one else showed up until noon. The place wasn't retail, so everyone else had the sense to stay home. I think it reminded me of my childhood in the big city where I had to walk to school every day, no matter the weather. I recently looked up the area and realized that I walked 2 miles ONE WAY, even when I was in kindergarten. No school buses, no family car. At least I was allowed to eat in the cafeteria for lunch! When you lived closer, you were expected to go home.

Time to put on a pot of coffee (I drink tea early in the morning), make some oatmeal, then finish holiday cards. I will get on the treadmill to generate some heat if I get desperate - LOL.

Yes, it was one of those days.
