they say that reminiseing is a sign of aging..well if thats true im there. LOL...i woke up around 2 this morning and couldnt get back to sleep, but something came to me as i lay there...a slice of woolworths cheesecake...since there were woolworths nationwide,i assume many of you remember that dimestore...but how about the cheesecake..im wondering if it was just something they made for us wisconsinites...boy it was good...it was a big slice of refridgerated cheesecake, not baked..my mom use to make them with bits of pineapple and marachino cherries and i remember her melting the gelatin in hot water and sieving the cottage cheese...i think i mite have to google that recipe. well anyway..we  use to go to mitchell street every saturday,it was a big thing back then for southsiders..lots of stores including schusters. mom and i would dress up and my dad would drop us off at the revolving doors of schusters, which became gimbels, shortely afterwards and we would shop the day away. oh lottie there use to be a krogers there also. anyway we would finish off by going to woolworths and having their turkey dinner with a big slice of cheesecake! now im afraid i havent been to mitchell street in years...the stores are gone, the area has changed and crime has taken over..a very sad critique of our society today, but at least i still have some happy memories of a time that yielded a simpler, safer life, with some very delicious memories. hey i got my first senior discount at kohls...im in the club...LOL...hugs mindy

Mindy what good memories you just brought back. My mom and I would ride the bus from Woodlake and shop and then eat one week at Woolsworth and the next

Mindy, we still have an old fashioned bakery named the "Europeon Bakery" & their bread is wonderful.
