My Computer Died

Looks like I'll pretty much be off line for a while. My computer died and dd-Sue says that it looks like the mother board went. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it at this point. For a while, the only way I'll have access to the internet is when I go to dd's or ds's house and use theirs. Already I'm having major withdrawals.
Take care,
Kaci

I'd be lost w/o mine! DH is worried about the life of his old PC. It runs Win 98 and so many programs don't work with it. So, he found a refurbished laptop for $300 online. It should be here next week. The dealer refurbishes PCs used by businesses and had a 6 mo. guarantee. DH says for that price, he can take it to the local fix-it shop if it has problems later. He will use it for email, but keeps his old tower for business records. It will be nice to have the laptop for travel. We don't have wi-fi in the house, but he can run a cable to my modem and plug in the laptop most anywhere. I'm thinking it will come in handy if someone is sick in bed. We have never had a TV in the bedroom, but being able to play a movie on the laptop will be great.

Thumbs down on the computer news.
You are smart to have the external hard drive. I bought mine when they were still pretty expensive, but having all my graphics, finances & genealogy files stored there makes me feel much better. I copy them over once a month. I don't use backup commands that some programs offer, as that usually compresses the file. If the program which de-compresses the HD copy is on the desktop when it dies, I'd have no way to open the files. Besides, I have tons of unused space on the HD - will take me decades to fill.
