Our pres.-elect spoke this morning...

and the words "it's going to get worst before it gets better" scare me. Although my 71 yr. old DH is working everyday, 2 of our 3 children have lost their jobs & are using unemployment insurance (thank goodnes for it) to live. They aren't as bad off as those who are losing their homes, but they want to work! Obama speaks inspirationally...sure hope it proves to be more than just words. I'm depending on him!
A dr. appt. & grocery shopping will take up my afternoon. I've started sneezing, but it's probably just dry air & dust
Wishing you all a pleasant day! Cal

I believe him. I think we will see more parents taking in younger family members.
Our youngest DS has rental properties with very reasonable rents. He doesn't want to get rich on the backs of low-income workers, just views these as future income. Now he's finding more people moving in with his tenants because they have lost their jobs and the shelters are full. His fear is that they will all lose their jobs and wind up squatters. It will cost him to have them evicted. Locally, one apartment complex had 80 vacant units and they found squatters living in 60 of them! No heat, water, or electricity, just a place to sleep. The landlord was a big company way out of town who never even checked.
Our biggest fear is that people will get desperate for anything they can resell and we will become the targets. I remember the DM of a friend in Chicago who worked and paid off her house. The neighborhood went downhill about the time she retired. She had bars installed on all the doors and windows, only went out between 9AM & 2 PM, then was a prisoner in her family home all night. The area had gotten so bad that no one wanted to buy her house so she hung on until illness caused her to leave. I never heard what happened to the old house, but it was in a area which was burned down during riots of the 60s.
