Got my shingles vaccination

After seeing how miserable DH was with shingles a few years, I got the shot today. It's recommended for folks over 60. Sure glad I'm on Medicare now, because my insurance with old job would only cover a small portion of the procedure. List price is over $200. So far, no side effects, so I'm hoping to get by with just a tender arm.

Everyone who qualifies should get the shingles shot.

Yep, one more thing to cross off my worry list. DH had it on his face and it affected the skin under one eye, which droops when he is tired. BTW - I had absolutely no reaction. Surprising for me, because I always got sick after flu shots, so don't take them anymore. But we did get the pneumonia vaccine a while back.

Jacquie--did the dr. tell you to avoid being around young children for two weeks? I got the shot 3 weeks ago and was told about this. It is a live virus and is about 14 times stronger than the chicken pox vaccine that little ones get now so it would be dangerous for them to be exposed to the shingles virus. My oldest DD got chicken pox in college after taking care of a patient with shingles and my DD was very sick. I didn't have any reaction to the shot either--thank goodness because I did have shingles before Christmas. I didn't know that there are different kinds of shingles. The one i had is the type that leads to Bell's Palsey if you don't get it treated. Live and learn :-)
Have a great weekend.

I had shingles about 13 years ago, and I waited until the 3rd day before going to the dr. because the pain just got so excruciating, and the dr. said I should have come in earlier.
