Good Fri. a.m.!

A quick trip to the store, florist & cemetery (Mom's birthday) will take up part of my day. I'd love to sneak in a movie since there are several I'd like to see, but doubt that I'll get the chance.
DGD made the volley ball team, so our Mondays will be planned for the season. I like any sport that is fast...hockey, basketball, tennis & volley ball. It's agony to watch football...5 minutes on the clock can take an hour to play!
I've already had 2 large cups of coffee, the caffiene is workin' & I'd better take advantage of it! Hope you all have a good weekend. Cal
P.S. FYI...Miss American contest is on TNT this weekend...I think Saturday. There are supposed to be changes in it. I'll check it out.

Good Morning Cal. Looks like this is going to be the last pleasant day here for a while. After today another cold front is suppose to be coming through. I hope I have a chance to get outside sometime today.
I haven't had my cuppa yet today. I do have to get moving to the kitchen and get it brewing. Thanks for mentioning the Miss America contest. I'd like to watch that once and I have to stick around home this weekend since I'll be dog sitting for ds & d-i-l.
Have a good day.
We're finally going to make the 80 mi. trip to Paris IL and take my sewing machine for service, now that the heater in my car is working. After DH forgetting we were leaving early last Fri, I rescheduled to this afternoon. The town has the prettiest courthouse I've ever seen - there are images on the web. We'll check out the local gun shop, but I know I'll spend most of my time in the sewing store looking for new projects. Being home and watching the sewing shows on PBS has given me ideas to try. The afternoon will end with supper in one of their local Mom & Pop eateries. DH is already thinking of things like Swiss steak or country fried steak. I'm hoping they have a fish special.

Hi Cal, nothing going on in my neck of the woods.
Bea, I think it's interesting to serve on a jury, but I've only been called once in my 70 years & may think differently if called more often.
There's figure skating, which I like, on TV tonight, too, Kaci.
Would love to hear a recap of your day in Paris, Jacquie.
It was a great day. We dropped my machine off, then headed for the gun shop. It's kinda funny when the good old boys figure us for a couple of city rubes and try to snow us with all the technical talk. Then they find out we are experienced shooters. DH bought some ammo on sale, I picked up a belt holster for field shooting - my hands get tired holding a pistol between rounds. By then we really needed some coffee, parked at the courthouse square, walked 2 blocks to discover the Main Street Cafe is open 5 AM to 2 PM. The gun shop owner had suggested we go to an Italian restaurant for coffee and it was on our way back to the fabric store. It had the best coffee I've had in ages - freshly brewed when we came in cold & thirsty. We looked at the evening menu and knew we'd be back for supper.
As a hobbyist, DH was really impressed with the fabric/machine store. Any thread you could imagine, craft patterns, quality quilt fabrics. They have classes for some of the projects. I want to do the one that trims an ultra suede jacket with chenille roping and an appliqued flower on the shoulder. I was looking in one area and he kept getting me so he could show me something cool. It was usually a gadget I already have. DH wanted to see how the embroidery machines worked. Not something I'm interested in - I actually like to embroidery by hand, find it very soothing. Then DH spotted a cabinet that he is sure I must have to replace my old folding tables. Will think on that one - it's expensive and I could buy a lot of fabric for the $$. I wound up buying "spoon bill" scissors for cutting away appliques, patterns for an elegant jacket and one for a shoulder bag with plenty of zippers and pockets, plus a book on applique. The bag is made of fabric and so light - will be easy on the shoulders. DH also threw in some jeans patches and pocket replacements that I use - he just hates to wear new jeans.
The restaurant was very 1950s Tuscan deco. It sits on a river bank and has an sun porch for warm weather dining. The menu had all the traditional Italian dishes, plus specials - majority of dinners were under $10!. I had walleye special, with side of pasta instead of potato, DH had pasta with sausage. How do some places get their salad greens so crisp and fresh? My veggies were fresh, not a frozen mix from a bag. Biggest laugh was DH and the olive oil/parmesan cheese dip mix. He's not been to an Italian restaurant in ages. Usually he hates "stinky" cheese, but the hot bread sticks tempted him to try it and he loved it. Said it just tasted buttery and kept eating. More good coffee and doggie container for me - I'll have it for lunch today. When my quilter friend gets settled here in her new home, I know we'll be road tripping.
Our weather is back in the low teens again, so I'm making a quick trip to the grocery and then in for the weekend. I want to try a recipe that uses fried chicken tenders from the deli, cut up, mixed with stir fry veggies, served on brown rice.
We did get the fabric stapled onto the first chair seat this morning. Needed 1 person to stretch the fabric and the other to staple. Even with the new electric staple gun, I couldn't press hard enough to get the staples in - DH had a hard enough time. My goal is to have one of the chairs completed today so I can be sure I've cut everything correctly. Looks good so far.
Weekend laundry goes on & I am so grateful I don't need to rub it on a washboard and hang outside to freeze - LOL. I remember bringing in frozen jeans that would stand by themselves.

Jacquie, thank you for the recap of your day in Paris.
Your quite welcome. I was hoping you weren't expecting a report about Paris FRANCE! When we first moved to mid-IL I worked with a lady from Paris. I was most impressed, but couldn't figure out why her accent was Southern and not French - LOL. Sadly, this little town is in decay. We were really shocked at the condition of the houses. The town originally was built to service the county seat and a railroad. The frame houses remind me of the RR town my DM grew up in. When the RR left, various industries moved in, but many of them are shuttered. The biggest news from there is that they are home to a huge contingent of the National Guard. DH did note that there must be some rich farmers, because the farms were huge, compared to where we live.
Some days I'd appreciate "boring". DH is always telling me about something on the internet, TV, etc. He's going out of town next Tuesday to help dismantle and move the model RR of the husband of my quilter friend. I'm gonna rush home from tutoring and enjoy the quiet.
