One chair done

It's taken me 3 weeks to get the 1 of 4 dining room chairs re-upholstered. This first one was all trial & error. Initial problem was needing a specially made upholstery staple puller - that was bought on eBay. Then I doubled the cushions, put the chair back together and found it was too high - my feet couldn't even touch the floor. The chairs can tilt back and this new center of weight made me feel like I was about to tip over. Off came the extra foam pad, but the covering didn't want to fit smoothly over the old foam pad. I remembered that our sofa cushions are foam wrapped with polyester batting, bought some and all fitted fine. I as not able to get the staples in all the way, even with the new electric stapler, so I needed DHs help. I waited for days to get this favor, then saw he had as much trouble as I and just hammered the staples in the rest of the way. So, today I followed his procedure and the seat looked great, even sat on the floor to screw the chair back together. Whew! I'm feeling mighty triumphant right now. Once the first "prototype" chair was done, I then sewed the rest of the covers. Now I must remove the old fabric on the remaining chairs - very hard on arthritic wrists, then proceed. I should have them done by the end of the weekend. As my DS who does remodeling always advises his clients "count on everything taking at least 1/3 longer and being 1/3 more expensive".

Congratulations on getting the first chair done, and that means your 1/4 of the way there.
