I picked up the phone on Fri. evening and it was our DGrS in the Army. He was back for a weekend visit with his new family. He invited us to join everyone for pizza on Sat. eve. We talked for over an hour, he was most concerned about some false information from some family members, and wanted to talk. His DSis and DM have been really nasty about the quick marriage and he wasn't sure how to deal with it all. I gave him some grandmotherly advice. His plan was to meet for lunch on Sat. with DSis and family and see how it went. On Sat. evening everyone showed up for pizza - seemed the peace pipe had been passed. He talked with DH a lot about upcoming Army career changes, DH just beamed. Later he and his DW took me aside and gave me big hugs and thanks for sharing my wisdom on life and marriage, told me that our almost 51 yr marriage is their example of weather all the stuff life can throw at us. They are on their way back to GA this morning and I am still smiling. He has grown so much in the last few years, and the new bride is a smart lady that I think they are in it for the long haul.

So, today I need to catch up on the laundry, plus get out for a walk. It will be 40 degrees - heatwave! Oh yes, I have leftover pizza for lunch :)

Jacquie,

Nice that you were able to give much appreciated insight into how to sustain marriage. It is for sure a lot of work for both parties and you and your DH are good roll models for the kids.
