If I don't get over this flu, I don't know what we'll do. Both DH and I have been sick all during January. We carefully made no appointments during the time from Thanksgiving through Christmas, knowing that was a good way to pick up every cough and sneeze. We avoided going shopping. Little did we know that someone would make a 'pop' call and bring this to us. I've been so d**n sick that I haven't been able to work on taxes, clean house, or even cook. Thank goodness for all of the pre-prepared stuff I've been cramming into the freezer, and canned chicken noodle soup.
Yesterday, we were feeling a little better, so I took my Roomba apart to clean the brushes (I had put it away dirty...something I don't usually do). DH took the upright apart to do the same. This morning, I tried to use the upright, and it isn't picking up. I guess it might be dead. It is about time, because the thing is about 20 years old.
We hope that all of you gals that are digging out of snow are doing well. I've been thinking of you having to work so hard every time it snows.
I know that Cal will join me for a toddy; it makes me feel a little better....or I don't care how I feel....I'm not certain which. Y'all meet me at the sink.

My German/Irish grandparents believed the hot toddy was the answer for whatever ails. I visited them most weekends and I can remember being being sick and the wonderful rest that toddy gave me - LOL. When DH was sick last week I finally convinced him to just sleep as much as needed. It is bitterly cold here today and DH left at daybreak to go 150 mi. North to help a friend move a model RR down here. I sure hope he doesn't bring any Chicago germs down here. I'm making chili for him to enjoy whenever he shows up.
Speaking of ready made food, I tried something new last night. Usually I make a big batch of Italian beef from pot roast, but I tried a appetizer version this time. It started when the deli clerk gave me a sample of a low sodium roast beef. Ummmm. I bought 1/2 lb , then heated it with a mix of low sodium beef broth, Italian herbs, soy sauce and a dab of Chinese brown gravy paste. Served it on "dollar" buns instead of the big ones which always fall apart and drop all over. Very tasty - definitely something I can serve to guests in a hurry. Unfortunately, the side salad wasn't too good. Seems our new fridge is too efficient and the house is too cold. The head lettuce was partially frozen. I told DH to eat the salad quick while it was a little crispy before it thawed out - LOL.
I'm going to enjoy the rest of the afternoon playing the piano. It's something I prefer to do when no one can here - LOL. Too cold in my hobby room to be here for long.

Healthy hugs coming your way Lottie.
My sister in law had been sick for 3 months with a cough. She went to the doctor a few times and no diagnosis. She went again 2 weeks ago and this time they told her she has pneumonia. The walking type I guess. Arrrrrrg some doctors give me a pain..LOL
Hope you and DH are feeling 100% real soon.
That beef recipe sounds good, and I like the idea of serving the small buns.

I Dx'd my own pneumonia the other day, and now I have bronchitis.

Hmmmm, did you get a flu shot and if you didn't do you think it would have helped or not?
I can only think of my friend Claire who has for 3 years in a row gotten very sick with flu like symptoms and bronchitis at this time of the year.
I'm with you, Lottie!
Yes, Bea, we both got the flu vaccine as soon as it was available, but it seems that the vaccine didn't cover a 'B' strain.

I hope you felt better this afternoon; there's hardly anything worse than having to 'really' cook when one is feeling sick.
The ingredients for the toddies are at the sink.

Dear Lottie:
I am so sorry to hear about your flu.
Do you have any Alka-Seltzer (sp?)?
