Irish Soda Bread –

 


“The Family Recipe”


 


3 1/4 cups flour


1/3 cup sugar


1/2 tsp. baking powder


1 tsp. baking soda


1 TB caraway seeds


1 cup raisins                              Slainte!


3 TB butter or shortening


2 cups buttermilk


2 eggs


 


Mix all dry ingredients together.  Cut butter in with a fork until like cornmeal.


Add raisins and caraway seeds.


Mix eggs and buttermilk together; add gradually to dry ingredients.


Mix well for one minute. Dough will be moist.


Sprinkle flour in an ungreased iron frying pan and pat dough in to fill pan.


Dip a knife in flour and make a cross in center of dough.


Sprinkle a little flour over all and bake in hot oven (425 F) for 35-40 min.
