We're having our quarterly neighborhood meeting tonight, complete with corned beef and cabbage.
I've been traveling alot again, to a Conference, a week of innsitting, and a trip to WI for a wedding shower and to help my dsis-in-law pack. She sold her house after it being on the market for a year and they want the closing at the end of March!
I'm so glad to hear Martha sold her house and Bea heard from Doreen. I haven't read all the posts as I'm working outside, taking "stuff" to Goodwill and generally getting caught up with things I've neglected being gone so much. I also need to sign up for Medicare! (Yikes!) Anyway I wish you all well and will read your posts soon.
I know there's some Idol and Dancing with the Stars fans here. I love the Idol guy from Milwaukee who lost his wife recently and Lil Rounds is good too .
On "Dancing" Melissa is great (although she has a dance background so not really fair) and that handsome Frenchman (Did anyone see the Sex in the City Movie?) Also the cute litttle gymnast.
What's evryone else think?
Enjoy being Irish today!!!
HUGS,

Hello stranger.
Hi -- good to "see" you! Not too much going on with me, but loved hearing how things are going with you.
I just wanted to let you know--in case no one else tells you--that after you sign up with Medicare there is a set period of time to have your physical and that is the last physical that Medicare will pay for and if you have a Medicare supplemental insurance plan, most of those won't pay if Medicare didn't but there are exceptions. No one told my friend about this and she missed out. So ask lots of questions so that you know the time limit. I have no knowledge of other Medicare plans such as the Advantage Plan or Medicare HMOs.
I hope i haven't confused you too much LOL
Carol
Hi Carol. Good to"see" you too. Yes, I am confused. Especially by "that's the last physical Medicare will pay for". I get a yearly physical. I assumed part B would pay for that.
I actually have an appt to enroll tomorrow. Glad you brought this up. There's so much I don't know.
I will have good supplemental insurance from my dh's former employer, so I should be well taken care of unless we get to a point where we can't afford the premiums. Ain't it grand getting older???
Hope all is well with you!
Hi Kaci,
It seems every time you come to IL, I go to WI! One of these times we'll get together.
We went to that wine tasting last year. It's very nice. Dh is starting a wine tasting group in the neighborhood. So far 9 couples have signed up. We may have to divide it into 2 groups.
I think the Idol guys are stronger this year too (except for Lil Rounds). Missed it this week.
Take care. It WILL warm up again. Going to WI again Sunday for a baby shower.
Hugs,
Darby... our supplemental insurance covers the annual physical that Medicare won't. You should check with yours. I find that my MD checks out everything except the gyne exam when I'm visiting for a specific problem. We were glad to get on Medicare, because it will cover us while traveling. When we were on my employer's HMO, it require pre-approval OR an emergency condition in order to cover the expenses. I heard of people on the plan dying in hotel rooms because they didn't want to take the chance that the chest pain would be just indigestion. Now that our HMO is secondary and Medicare foots the largest portion of the bill, the HMO covers us while traveling. I do fear that our HMO is in for a rough time in the future. They are one of the providers that bill Medicare directly. New research is showing that these organizations routinely overcharge Medicare in order to keep their premiums low and competitive. If the government really starts cracking down on this, our premiums are bound to go up. We did give up the long-term health ("nursing home") insurance which my employer had begun, because the premiums went up this year and we could predict future increases. Didn't make much sense to do without meds or food in order to pay for a service we may never use.
How's your darling cat? Mine love having me home more and are total lap cats now. I've even learned to distinguish the different meows, so I know what they want.
Jacquie
Darby, when DH and I went on medicare part A, which comes with your SS and is free and no money taken out for it, we didn't need the physical.
