A lot less pain

I had my MD visit today. It was mostly to see how I was doing on the statins, but I told him about my back pain that leads to all over body hurting. As I'm now 1/4" shorter than in Oct. and the pain is higher than the area last x-rayed, he ordered new films. After I told him I slept just fine for 7-8 hours, and the pain starts after I'm upright an hour or so, he decided we could rule out fibromyalgia. Mostly the back pain provokes an inflammatory reaction in my body - sort of like "sympathy" pains. I reminded him that a few years ago the spine MD had given me a round of anti-inflammatory meds (Piroxicam) that helped a lot, but bothered my stomach, so I quit after a few days. It was to be taken every other day, so today he ordered a lower dosage capsule to be taken daily. I took the first pill at 3PM and was pain free by 6 PM. I am most grateful. I will need to have liver tests taken regularly, then go off for a few weeks each year, but I can live with that. Other labs need to be done to rule out any further issues, but he's not concerned. I am so grateful to know that there is hope for a somewhat normal life again. Once again, the dear man emphasized that quality of life at my age can be way more important than quantity. That said, he predicted I've got another 10-15 years to go, so I need to get moving again. Having quit smoking 30 years ago was a definite plus at this age.

Oh - he did suggest I forget the idea of ice-skating with the Grands - LOL. Even with good bone density reports, a fall could cause the disks to crack and really mess up my spine. No problem, I've done enough skating for my lifetime. Just want to be able to dance for a while longer.

Jacquie--sounds like you had a very beneficial doctor visit. I hope the anti-inflammatories continue to help. After the tragic death of Natasha Richardson-Neesom we all need to be careful about falling and hitting our heads. Take care!

Well, I spoke too soon. The reduced daily dosage doesn't do much good. I'm back to the codeine tablets. Waiting until the lab & xray results come in, then need to talk with the MD more. Grrrr.
