Oatmeal again in my kitchen. DH has once again tried to cook and has failed. This morning he decided to cook oatmeal. The thick cut variety, that you must cook 20 minutes. He put some water in the pot, added some salt, oatmeal, put a lid on the pot and turned the burner on. He never measures anything, plus he doesn't read instructions. Of course the burner was turned way too high and he decided after 5 minutes to check his e-mails, so he left the kitchen and the oatmeal cooking away. IT BURNT. Talk about stink. Never mind that he didn't cook enough for two, just himself.
I came running downstairs when the alarm went off. Now I am airing out the house. Plus, the alarm people called and then the police. Since this is the 4th or 5th time he has done this, I know we will be charged by the alarm service and I am out one of my good pans. I swear I may be planting him in the back 5 acres yet. Grrr........... I just wish he would stay out of the kitchen.

Better hide the oatmeal box or put the pots in a locked cabinet. Makes me real grateful that my DH refuses to cook. If it can't be pored out of a container or slapped onto 2 pieces of bread, he won't touch it.
Was the pan salvageable?

Oh no Lou! I did that once with hard boiled eggs - went to do something and forgot all about them. Of course they exploded and the stench was awful, not to mention ther stains on the pan! Tell him he's not alone!
Jacquie:
Lordy, I wished my DH would stay out of the kitchen.
Darby:
yep, DH is a character in the kitchen.
Hi Cal:
Glad to hear from you.
Oh goodness me that is awful Lou. Yep, he needs to be kept out of the kitchen at all costs, before he sets the whole kitchen on fire.
The smell of burnt food through out the house is not pleasant either.
Can you get husband proof knobs for your stove
Tee hee. I do the same thing about getting work done around here. DS is painting while we are in New Orleans.

I have just read this whole thread, and I think it's a classic in every household where there is a DH, especially one that is retired, that decides to help in the kitchen.
