Sunday musing

DH was gone most of yesterday. I intended to practice piano, exercise, all kinds of virtuous things. Instead, I found the movie "Age of Innocence" on cable, and decided to watch it. No chick flick comments from DH, just sat, ate my lunch and enjoyed the solitary viewing. It occurred to me later that now that I'm retired I am doing less & less "should" and more "want". And it's getting worse. I don't have much to do with a half DSis who has become a snob, former co-workers who just want to talk about the office politics, relatives who only call when they want something. I know I SHOULD be polite and go along, but I don't have it in me anymore. Some days it's enough behaving myself with DH! At least what the cats want (lap sitting, feeding) is pure joy. After supper there were no regular shows to watch, I knew DH would fall asleep anyway, so I chose another movie. It was "Bottle Shock". A sweet movie about a true story of California wine growers. It starred one of my favs - Alan Rickman. Scenery was absolutely spectacular, highly recommend it.

Bad? As the hippies used to say "how can anything that feels so good be bad??". Most of us here have spent enough time meeting everyone else's needs, now it's time for us. Today is cold and gloomy, the light snow has already melted. I'm working on sewing projects and doing laundry in the background. I did make DH his pancakes & bacon for Sunday breakfast. It's a holdover from when kids were home and that was the 1 breakfast we all were home. Somehow after I do that "should", I don't want to be cooking and cleaning any more on Sunday - LOL. There's 1/2 of a roasted deli chicken in the fridge, so I'll have an easy supper. Had an interesting talk with the butcher about amount of salt I tasted in last one I bought. He told me that only "original" was unsalted. Classic, BBQ & lemon pepper all use seasonings with plenty of salt. He was correct - it was just plain roasted chicken. At $5 for the chicken, we'll get 2 suppers and I'll have pieces to put on my lunch salad. I save the carcass in the freezer, make soup base when I get enough to fill the soup pot.

Lou,
I once read that our kids have us in a time warp from when they left home. I do believe it's true. Mine expect me to be doing the same things I did 20 years ago. They have this vision of the motorcycle riding, ice skating, gardening superwoman and don't seem to get it that I'm up in years - LOL.

Lou, I wouldn't even worry about seeing DIL for two weeks if she has you down cleaning the floor and DH does all the windows.
