My day starting out as usual, can post at least once, and then tool bar won't come in until I go to the top, so here I am on top. I did read about Rich's problem with pain med's and I do agree that he has a very difficult problem and very painful. Ted has had some bad problems in the past, and the pharmacist told him he couldn't stay on the pain meds as he was afraid of the addiction problems, plus he is allergic to so many things. This is what he recommended and it's still done to this day if necessary.
Get extra strength Tylentol, start by taking 3 instead of 2 and do this every 4 hours for about 3 or 4 times. Then continue the extra strength and the extra tablet (they recommend 2, not 3) the regular 12 hours apart I think it is, but if he can't make it go for 8 or 10 hours.
Now, I also found something out with my recent surgery and pain meds. Like Rich, all the pain meds did was make me loopy and very, very sick and I refused to fill the meds when coming home and then another med to take the sickness away. In the hospital when I couldn't wait for the next dose, I noticed that they gave me
Extra strength Tylenol--2 pills every 4 hours or so
and then
about the 2 hour point in between they gave me Motrin. Yes, Motrin--and you have to eat a mouthful of something, I had a cracker, so as not to get sick.
This simple little med regime worked for me, and then when feeling the pain less, which I don't know if this will happen with Rich or not, we spaced it further and further apart and finally were able to cut the Motrin in about two weeks time and spaced the Tylenol out further and further apart.
I admit Rich's problem is more serious, but the pharmacist told us that the meds he was on, the high content to get addicted and very pricey to boot ($$$) could be done with doubling up on the Extra Strength Tylenol like I explained in the above. We were shocked, but it did work for pain--unfortunately won't take the problem away, but sometimes if the body can be out of pain and relax it might work itself out.
Rich (gentle hugs). I've seen the pain in this household the same, degenerative disk disease for him, sciatic for me but it's finally getting to a better point, and it seems that the Tylenol has something in it to really help. The secret, from the pharmacist again is, don't wait until the pain grabs hold again, the minute you feel it starting up take the Tylenol again, and don't forget the Motrin in between in need be.
I hope that you are doing alright Mindy, am I right that Lance Armstrong won again? Lately, so much going on here, and trying to get a few small house maintenance chores done. Yeah, putting the ropes in the bedroom window that broke when DH raised the window turned out to be a very frustrating job--but after about 3 hours of struggeling we finally got it done. His trying to work with out the full use of the left hand is quite a drawback also, and that's pain he has learned to live with.
Off for now, hope everybodey else is well--to anybody else reading, have a good day and I am here, sometimes surf but my frustration level isn't as low as it used to be and I get off quick if I can't get on. Hugs to all.

Mindy, I know this sounds melodramatic, but I had tears while reading about Rich's pain.
