Another glitch

Where shall I begin. With the innocent remark of "shall we check out the lake house today!" I guess that's as good as any. So we did a few errands and continued on to the lake. That was in the afternoon as in the morning DH took the front tires and brakes apart thinking he had to do a brake job, and he found the brakes were still good for another 10,000 miles, so he proceeded to the oil change and checked things out here and there and it all seemed alright.
So off we go, happy as a lark, did the errands and ended at the lake. The heater gone off at one point and didn't click on again so he started that, and we know that we are in for a new heater for the place this summer, which we intended to take care of last summer but health and other issues got in the way.
So, out he comes, goes to start the car, and walla walla, the car doesn't start. Now, this driveway is on a slant and is that the cause or not. A neighbor came by and he tried to give ideas and even called his buddy mechanic who couldn't come by, but had the same input that the neighbor and DH already had. Yes, the car had plenty of gas but got the gas he just bought for the lawnmower and put in some of that also, but that was not the problem. Neighbor suggested backing the car down further, to the almost flat spot but not flat enough, as he thought the gas wasn't getting through, so now the car is almost down to the stone wall and DH is wondering what to do next. Neighbor said he would drive him to our house to get the other car, but first had to take his 2 dogs over to meet another dog that he will be dogsitting soon for, and wanted to make sure that they got along. Anyway, when he came back from that he thought all had been taken care of because he saw Claire's car there--she came over to keep me company until DH got back after I called and told her what happened.
Well, the upshot of the whole thing is DH is very independent, and so after neighbor left he turned and said to me "Ill be back in about a couple of hours." Uh, where are you going, and the answer straight and simple is that I am going to hitchhike. I almost got spastic right then and there, he told me to stop the crying, I told him it's too dangerous, but what does a women know. Anyway, off he went--he turned the heat up, turned the t.v. and the water on for me--yikes, I'm gonna be stuck here forever and not know where he is. This is the first winter that we turned off the landphone under advice of the phone company--after having it on and keeping it on year round for the past 22 or 23 years whether we are there or not. So I have the cell phone. At 7 p.m. I finally called the house, and thank the Lord, DH answered the phone and he just got there a short time ago and was trying to find our cell phone # so that he could call me. Well, he asked me for the number as I'm trying to get over all this, and I don't know the cell phone number, don't know where to find it, don't want to call son to find out our number--and finally DH found it scribbled down somewhere and DH gave it to me. I guess I better carry it someplace, but he has since put it in his wallet. My neighbor's also took my cell phone when we went over to thank them and explained what was happening and they put their cell phones in on my cell phone in case we needed them--they said after all, that's what neighbor's are for. How nice can people get--I am just amazed.
So we came home in the newer of the two cars and left broken down Betsy sitting in the driveway that slants down to the house and could end up in our bedroom if it ever decides to do a downhill roll-----I have always hated that driveway. I have thanked God a thousand times for DH's safety, now he is looking up what he thinks it could be, should he have it towed and where to, we don't have a mechanic, we don't know the places down there, etc., etc., etc.
We got home at 10 pm last night--pizza night--I told him to forget it, but the dough has already risen and my remarkable DH made the pizza, and we ate like nothing happened but my stomach was churning thinking of all the what if's but also thanking God for his keeping him safe. No, a police car didn't come along, darn it--if they were cruising they would have helped him. It was a broken down old car that came along with people of whatever culture--a couple with a 10 week old baby and the mother got in the back seat with the baby and they brought DH to a gas station in our town right at the edge of the highway, they couldn't speak good English and after DH got in the car he was thankful that they didn't smoke. That--with everything else we both forgot about. The man, in broken English said that they had to go to Boston and he needed gas so guess who got the honor of filling the car up. Was well worth it though--one neighbor helping another, whoever they are I thank them, but I still think of the danger involved and how lucky DH was. All in all, it's about 20 miles from here and DH did end up walking about 7 miles before being picked up, and another 3 miles after filling the gas tank.
Girls, I'm asking for a prayer of thanks--now to see what's happened with the car and what to do--I've got to get on my way--wishing everybody a good day and sorry to rattle on, hugs to all.

Holy moly - your heart must have been pounding worrying about him. Not a good thing for a DH to do to his poor DW! He is more than lucky that nothing bad happened to him on the road.
Sorry, but I did smile about your telephone number issues. DH carries a card in his wallet with all the numbers programmed on ours, because I carry the phone (he can't hear it well enough to use). I can't count the times I've asked him what OUR number is - really embarrassing. I finally learned where to find it on our phone and practice this regularly so I don't forget it.
Hope your DH isn't as stubborn as mine is about car issues. DH is always sure he can fix whatever it is, then realizes the new engines are way beyond his "garage mechanic" level. Eventually, the car limps into the repair shop, then I get to listen to DH complain about what muscles he pulled trying to fix it. He never learns. I'm trying hard to convince him he will REALLY be my knight in shining armor if he picks up the @#$% phone, makes the appointment and gets the car fixed ASAP. We've spent weeks with just 1 car working while putters around...

I hope your Friday is much more relaxing--you both deserve it.
Hugs,

Holy Cow Bea, I have sure been missing your stories, but glad after reading both of the glitch. It sounds like your about to get it all taken care of, yes it can be dangerous hitchhiking. My brother that has MS walks 6 miles a day 12 total every single day and even when it is snowing. He is 71 lives in Boise Idaho I worry about him but he takes a stun gun and does it about 5am.
I don't like car trouble in any way shape for form, but sometimes it just happens, I loved you key story and your many compartment purse. Love the $200 find, I do that so much, I will find money in a coat that I haven't worn for months or in a purse I don't use much.
All is well that ends well, and hope your car is good shape when you get it back.
Have a good weekend, hugs Betty
