I Have A Gas Leak

Yes, I have a gas leak in my front yard.  I was smelling gas when I went outside, so I called the gas company.  The guy that came out checked the area where the gas enters the house and found nothing.  Then he walked the like between the house and the road and walla, there it was.  His little meter went off like a geiger counter.  He called in for a crew to come out to take care of it and explained to me that he had to wait around until they got there.  I had been in the process of picking up twigs and branches from the lawn before he got there and so, he pitched in and helped me with the picking up while he waited.  He was such a nice man.  When the crew got here, they located the leak (about 20 feet from my house) and drilled holes in the ground in that area to allow all the gas to escape.  They said that would be ok for the night and that another crew would be out today to replace the line to the house.  They said it probably has been leaking there for a long time because the grass in that area is all dead.  And, I've been wondering why I have this dead spot on the lawn.  Who'd have guessed?  So, right now I'm waiting on them.  I took my shower and washed a load of laundry early because once they disconnect the gas line my hot water heater won't work any more.  I hope they do get out here today so I don't have to worry about it all weekend.  The gas smell is very strong when you walk on that end of the house.

Kaci;

I am so happy you found the leak when you did.

Kaci--how fortunate that it was discovered. Scary! I hope they show up soon and get it fixed pronto. I hate being without hot water--it is very unsettling. Wishing you a good weekend with everything in working order.

Before we even had gas into the house for heat, the gas company was always in our yard with that thing that they check the grounds out with, and we are at a low spot, and the gas would always be escaping from about 10 houses away right near the bridge to the river that we have at that area, and then they would always be digging up that area to fix it.

Kaci I agree with lottie, I don't like to smell gas and then hope it is nothing serious. I would of be afraid to use my washer.
