weird thoughts from bladder infection?

Ok, I have a weird question. I got a bladder infection about 4 weeks ago. It got bad real quick, I was peeing blood in a matter of a day. By the next day, I was having sharp back pains, I am assuming it went into my kidneys at that point. The doctor ran a urine test and said it was really bad, some levels of something were really high. I was put on Septra for 7 days. I felt much much better. Well, a week after I stopped the antibiotic, I started feeling just weird. Sorta flu like symptoms, hot/cold, muscle and joint pain, exhaustion, insomnia, etc. But nothing worth mentioning, I just thought I was recovering from being so sick or maybe just feeling a bit run down, I have a 4 month old, so life gets tiring sometimes. Plus I am not having any bladder problems, it feels fine "down there" So anyway, the other weird thing is that I am having just really weird thoughts. I can't describe them any other way but weird thoughts. I can say that at it's worst, I feel like I smoked some marijuana and I am having a bad trip. I just feel out of touch with myself and my surroundings. I then start getting anxious and paranoid...like, um, what is going on with me! It's like my eyes are start to get out of focus or things just look weird. So I will call the doctor for sure, I just don't want her to think I am insane and call the white jackets on me, so I wanted some feedback here first. Can it be the bacteria still in my system causing me to have weird thoughts and feelings? Can it be a leftover side effect from the antibiotics? What the hell? I remember somehting sorta like this happening a few years ago to me, but it was while I was on the antibiotic and so they just switched antibiotics for me.

your freakin' me out cuz i'm going through exactly the same thing and completely understand what your talking about. i went to the doctors because the lower left side of my back hurt and i didn't feel well. i did a urine test and the dr. told me i had a kidney infection. i too, was prescribed Septra but after a few days found i was allergic to it and was then given cephalexin. i just finished the prescription and while i am somewhat better, i do not feel well and still have back pain. i'm having the same feeling like you, like i'm "high" and i feel kinda "detached" from myself, like im drifting in and out of reality. i'm wondering if this is what it's like before you pass out or something, it's kinda ethereal.

yes and no, during the initial visit i told the doctor that i felt lightheaded, at times, but i have not told him about this "high" feeling, which is somewhat different. i had a renal/abdominal ultrasound done today and thought i would wait until he receives the results from that and would tell him then. do you think this is a bad idea, maybe?

I am the original poster. I wanted to share my update. I went to the doctor and had some blood work and a urinalisis. It all came back ok. However, I got the doctor to give me another antibiotic in the mean time. Since then, my feelings of "Disconnection" have all but disappeared. I also talked to a girlfriend of mine who had the same exact symptoms as me and said she was diagnosed with a kidney infection she never even knew she had. Her theory is that the feelings of disconnection are from a low grade fever that some times just doesn't register on a thermometer.
Anyhow, I just wanted to share my outcome here.
