Someone Please Help My Sister!

My sister just confessed and bawled her eyes out about something that has been going on for about a year now. I know that someone here will be able to help her. If anyone has had these systems, please respond with ideas.

Apparently she has been seeing a specialist for almost a year about a chronic problem she has been having that was first diagnosed as yeast infections. After having several years of a normal sex life, enjoying it and whatnot, she started to have ongoing pain in her vagina. It would stem from extremely itchy to so painful she couldn’t think straight. She would have days where it wouldn’t hurt, but it would still itch a little. Then a week later, full pain again. She was put on several different yeast infection medicines until a specialist decided that wasn’t what it was. What was it? He didn’t know. She was prescribed several different ointments and oral medicines, but none worked.

Here is a list of her symptoms:
 Pain in the inner and outer portion of her vagina
 Pain in the lower portion of her abs.
 When her vagina is not in pain, it feels dry and itchy
 Uncomfortable irritation at the start of intercourse – The pain will sometimes subside during intercourse, but the second she organisms the pain becomes excruciating.
 Most of the time she can’t even finish having sex because the pain becomes unbearable
 Her vagina (inner and outer) and her abs are in pain after using the bathroom

She has been tested for STDs and everything came up negative. She is so upset because her fiancé’s and her sex life has just deteriorated. One other side note, is that this problem happened after about 3 months of perfectly normal sex with her now fiancé.

Please help her!

I am so sorry that your sis is having such a problem. My first suggestion would be to find another specialist. IMO, docs just can't know everything and a different doc may find the answers that she needs. One condition that popped into my head that she might want to check out is vulvodynia http://health.ivillage.com/gyno/gynovulva/0,,5kvm,00.html Some other thoughts off the top of my head are endometriosis or PID. There are other possibilties as well. I hope that she finds a answer soon. Keep us updated. Laura

I just finished reading a book by Susanna Kaysen called "The Camera My Mother Gave Me." It's a sort of memoir, and the entire book is about her dealing with something similar to what it sounds like your sister is going through. I suggest she reads it.
