Abnormal Pap

I went to my doctor over a month ago for a pap smear, STD tests, and birth control. She said she would send a card if everything was fine, and call if anything came back abnormal. Several pieces of my mail have been lost recently, so I assumed she sent the card and I didn't get it. Since I started the new birth control, I had sex with my boyfriend without a condom for the first time about a week ago. Then, my doctor called me and told me the test came out with abnormal cells and I needed to have a colposcopy. I'm mortified. Could I have passed some kind of an infection or STD to my boyfriend? Should I abstain from sex until I find out more? Does "abnormal cells" mean the test for gonorrhea and syphilis came out okay?

Please let me know if you have any info. I'm so worried.

Thank you so much for your quick reply! That is some comforting information. I'm suprised I have not run across that article, because I spent hours reading the website about everything related to pap smears last night.

I had my Pap come back saying the same thing. I had HPV. If the doctor wouldnt of told me I would of had no clue! But yes you should quit having sex without a condom until you find out whats wrong. My husband didnt catch anything but you dont want to take the chance.

Greetings and Welcome Erin,

I wouldn't have unprotected sex until I know more.
