bad back

the other day a co-worker at the store, where I am working part-time, said to me 'you have a bad back'. i thought i heard it wrong, but it was no mistake.

english is not my native language, so please pardon me for asking: what does it mean?

I used to have some health problem at my back (uneven shoulder, scoliotic) when i was very young, but later corrected it with surgery so that my problem is asymtomatic now and really very un-remarkable when i have clothes on. however, ever since my surgery people have remarked, both in front of me and behind my back, on my over-correct, even rigid posture. this does not bother me as much - the fact that my back no longer troubles me but that i stand/sit like someone who has suffered from chronic back problems.

what do you think the woman possibly mean by her remark? though she's naughty and mischievous she does not sound the really nasty type who picked on people's appearance seriously...

I don't think she was trying to be mean. I think she was asking if your back hurts. Having a "bad back" means that it causes you pain because of an injury or some other condition. She probably noticed your rigid posture and came to the conclusion that your back hurt...she probably was not remarking on the appearance of your back/shoulder at all.
