Hummus -- a blend of mashed chickpeas, olive oil, tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice and garlic -- is high in both protein and fiber, and jam-packed with vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids. Unfortunately, it is also rather high in calories and fat. Since the fat comes primarily from the olive oil, however, it is the "good" (monounsaturated) type known to help lower LDL cholesterol.

I love hummus, especially with a little extra garlic, some oregano and a touch of chipotle pepper stirred in. Yum!

I have a couple of friends who love it and make their own.
I have to stay away from the fat and also peppers etc.
In small amounts I can eat it, it's just like most things in "moderation"...kwim?

I know hummus is easy to make, and I've done it a couple of times, but I usually end up buying it ready-made at the supermarket.

Moderation is key, you're right, and there are a couple of things I can only enjoy in very small amounts. Usually I just steer clear of them altogether to avoid temptation.

When I first had my heart attack I was really scared about my diet but I am learn the best thing to do is just eat in moderation and gradually ease things out of your diet don't try to eliminate everything all at once.
Cutting back is easier at first.
My caffeine intake has gone down.
Buying it ready made is a convenience and sometimes it is actually cheaper and less time-consuming.
Reading the labels has helped me make more informed decisions.

Red pepper is my daughter's favorite kind of hummus too, and she is also a fan of pita chips. Hmmm, it seems like she should have picked up her tastes from me instead of from you! ;-)
