I have never given a single thought to beauty pagents, but today I had my kids at the docs office and the nurse suggested I enter my 6 month old in the upcoming contest. Her daughter won the year before, and she thought that my daughter had a real good chance ( I must say, she is gorgeous! but, I am her mother...) I was wondering what you all thought of pagents for babies. Let me know, thanks!!

I don't think much of it at all, but a lot of people do. My family has just always frowned on that behavior. My mom let me do some when I was older but it didn't last long b/c I was a tomboy :). I think letting older kids do it is fine, but I just feel like it's a bad idea for children. For one thing, small children shouldn't be made up to look like grown ups. Also, grown men should not be judging young kids on their looks. It it just creepy! I realize you're talking about a baby, but I personally feel the same way about it. It's up to you, though. Just don't go nuts! hahaha ;)

Hi! I think it's a wonderful idea! I competed in pageants starting at the age of 10 and did them until I was 17. I have entered my daughter in three of them, her first one was when she was 6 months old. It's a great boost for the parent in my opinion and later in the child's life it builds up a great sense of self esteem. It also teaches you and your child a valuable lesson about winning and losing. My daughter hasn't taken the crown yet but I'm still so, so proud of her sparkly runner-up trophies and her award medallions! Hope I helped!

I've been lurking for a while and felt the urge to respond to your post.

I say, go fo it! I had thought about doing it with my 2 dd's, but never got the opportunity. It'll be fun for you.

GO FOR IT! I was in pagents as a child from the time I was one until I was sixteen I loved it I won most of them but either way its a great way to teach good sportsmanship. Once Haylei is 6 months old I'm going start her in them. I really loved them and I hope she will too! Just be sure your not forcing her to do it I know shes still young and can't make her own decsions but once shes old enough make sure shes doing it because SHE wants to and not b/c you want her to.

I don't like beauty pagents because I think it teaches children to become proud,or at the very least put a high value on looks rather then the importent things.

I totally agree - I just don't think that it's healthy to let a child "win" or "lose" because of her looks - I would much rather see her compete in a spelling bee or a gymnastics meet (of course, only if SHE wants to). It would be different if it were a pure talent contest, but I think that being judged on looks alone is putting the emphasis on the wrong thing. And the point that one of the earlier posters made about men judging little children - I had not even considered that point before, but she's right - eeewwww, how creepy. JMO.
