3 year old who hates leaving the house?

My 3 1/4 year old son fights everything I try to take him to. I say, okay, let's start getting ready to go to playgroup in 10 minutes, he has a negative attitude until we're there, but then he loves to be there! "I don't want to go! I want to stay home! No, let's not go!" Grumbles and fights and often cries about going.
I don't think I overload him with activities. Kindermusik on Wednesday mornings ( a fun activity for all three of us that me and my 14 month old love), swimming on Saturday mornings, and Sunday school on Sunday mornings. And sometimes playgroup on Thursdays if I feel like putting up with another fight. And we play at home most all the rest of the time. I don't think that's too much?
He's negative right from starting to get ready until the minute the activity starts. I don't understand why he would put up such a fight to go when he has so much fun once he's there. He's really a delightful child otherwise.
Any insights about what I should do? I don't want to force him to do activities he really doesn't want to do, but he loves them once he's there!
Thanks,
Melissa
