Is it possible to have excema from...

My dd is 9 months old. She has always had little patches of excema on her legs, but nothing too major. Since she has been eating veggies, it has gotten REALLY bad. It didn't feed her any veggies for 1 week, and it cleared up. On the weekend, I gave her a little bowl of mixed veggies. It had pureed carrotts, peas, water, and a bit of potato. The next morning, she woke with a HUGE excema welt on her cheek. This is the only spot on her body that it gets really red, and huge. Is it an alergic reaction? My doctor prescribed a non cortizone cream, which works quite well, but can she never eat veggies now? Is it possible to get an outbreak from food, or is it something else?

Thanks

It sounds like an allergic reaction to me. I would stop all veggies for a week or two and then slowly reintroduce them (carrotts for a week, peas for a week, green beans for a week, etc...just like when you first started solid foods) and note which veggies cause a reaction. She may only be allergic to certain ones.

Does your daughter also have any health problems? Recurrent infections? I just ask because eczema is a sign of asthma as well.

Allergies can go away or get worse. Ask your Dr. to send you to a specialist and have some tests ran to see what she is allergic to. Even if your Dr. says they can't do anything for a baby don't agree to that. There are specialist who deal with infant allergies and asthma. My neice is 8 and her astma Dr. said that if they had sent her early on her condition wouldn't be as bad as it is now. They kept treating the eczema but didn't look at the allergies.

Good Luck and make sure you feed her one veg. until you know for sure she won't break out from it.

I'm new here, I hope I can help. I have two sons. My oldest is 3 he has been allergic to eggs and milk (including breast milk) all of his life. He has food allergy induced asthma, too. I would check for signs of wheezing and runny nose. I would also go with the suggestion of starting over with veggies. One at a time. From everything I've read it is very rare for a child to be allergic to veggies. You could also check with FAAN (food allery and anaphlaxis network) Just reading from their website was a huge help to me. My son is just now starting to eat foods with eggs and milk. I am happy to report that he is doing very well with these new foods. At least with the foods he's willing to try!!
