I am at my wits end with my 5 year old daughter. She wants to be wearing my big shirts all the time to be ''comfy''her words not mine--the problem is when we get her dressed every morning for school in'real'clothes she pitches a fit--every single morning its like this.Blue jeans are the worst, you would think by the way she acts they are a form of punishment or something.Everything fits, nothing is to tight she just hates clothes and it is driving me crazy. What can I do?HELP!It might sound silly but it is a real problem.

Oh have I been through this,, but I also got tags bothered her, the lines in the socks, bothered her,, she only had 2 pair of underwear that she liked It's very frustrating,,, try this,,

let her pick out her clothes for school the night before,, tell her they MUST be her own clothes but she can pick them out,, you have to be willing to not care if they don't match or don't go with each other,, I after 3 kids just don't care as much as I did w/ my 1st,, I mean my 1st her barrets would match her socks, but come on who really pays attention to that?

If that will kill you, try to put her clothes away together in her drawers, that way if she pulls out a pair of pants hopefully she will then grab the shirt right next to it that goes with it!

Have you tired letting her shop for some clothes that she would be interested in wearing?

Some special clothes that she might want to wear all the time? Like favorite cartoon or theme?

That might get her interested in wearing her own "special" clothes.

Good luck.

O.k.I just let her pick out her clothes for school tomorrow and I have been informed that her underwear are lumpy, she went into her 14 year old sisters room and picked out a size 10 pair(she wears size5)and said they were o.k.None of the jeans were good enough so as soon as we get paid its shopping for us,but I'm going to make her try on everything!!OH YEAH,Right now she has on my size 12 adult pj bottoms that are 3 feet to long. Its o.k. at home but she is really driving me crazy,I'm not kidding, she cried the whole time she was picking out school clothes.

Hi Jamie

I'm sorry that your DD is SO fussy, picky whatever you'd like to call it...about her clothes. Have you talked to a Doctor about it? Maybe it's a sensory thing or maybe she itches in certain clothing? If she is having such a hard time with wearing the clothes maybe it could be something like that- or has she always had this problem? Did it START whe she began school? Sometimes kids will bring out new tricks to stay away from something they don't want to do? I wish I could help... but I don't don't have experience with this. I do know people who have kids with SID (sensory intergration disorder) and they have problems with clothing as well...not everything but some don't like it wet or tight etc. Just a thought Good Luck Shelley

HI,Thanks for your repley---picky is the perfect word. This is a new thing,I dont think she has sid,it might be worth checking out.I think shes spoiled and she knows this is a way to get to me--or maybe its a phase.I really dont know.If it is a phase I'll have to live with it untill she grows out of it,I just hope she dont act like this at school.

Do you think she is wanting to wear clothes like you? Do you wear loose clothes during the day at home. Maybe she is trying to be like you? Just a thought. :)

Does she like dresses? When I was 5 I absolutely hated any type of pants. I LIVED in dresses. (And if it's cold out, you could have her wear leggins or really thick tights)
