Will They Take It Back??

Anyone returned something to Toys R Us that's been opened, assembled, and used - just because your child didn't like it? I've got the receipt and the box - just wondering if I need a creative excuse, too.

Thanks!

I am not sure if they will take it back.... but maybe you can tell them..that you already had one.....and your mother went and bought one and set it up.....wanting to surprise your child.... and that you don't need 2. Hopefully that will work.

I did it a lot when DD was smaller cause she was terfied of some of the toys she got. I took them back with out receipt. They really dont mind if you are just going to get something else. I told them she was scared of it. Kerri

Why don't you donate your gently used toy to a children's hospital or local shelter? There are plenty of kids who could get some use out of it, rather than have you set the example of making "creative excuses" to return a used item that a store cannot sell. IMHO, I just think it is wrong to return a used item to a store unless it is defective.

I'm not going to donate it because it was a gift from my parents. It was pricey, and they don't have a lot of money so it wasn't easy for them to buy it. I just want to get a different model, not screw the store.

Be honest. Say it wasn't what you wanted and that you want a different model. With the receipt and as long as it isn't scuffed (resaleable condition) they should take it. Where I worked (bookstore) we had to take anything back if it came with a receipt (the customer's always right ...even when they are wrong.LOL) When you buy things that need to be assembled first...you can't KNOW beforehand that they aren't what you want. Now I'd have a problem if it was 6 months down the road and you were just bored with the toy...that would be screwing the store.LOL

I think your intentions are fine. Don't worry about it at all. Just be honest about it all, and they should be more than accomodating. If it helps any, I always send my DH in to do returns. For some reason, he makes everyone understand where he's coming from! LOL
