How to Entertain a 9 month old

Hello All!

I am the fulltime mom of a 9 month old boy. He is very active, loves to be in his walker. This may sound silly, but can anyone give me some tips on what to do with him all day? How do you entertain a 9 month old, all day, without TV? I've tried reading, but I can barely get him to sit still for a minute!!! Help!!!

I am not sure on this one, since both my kids are 5 yo and 15 weeks. Been awhile since I have had to deal with a youngin.

I would say look on the internet for ideas. There are so many parenting sites that give you tons of ideas for diffrent ages. Like crafts to do, games, songs and so forth.

Hope you find something.

Hi!

I just went through this (well, it's still going on, really). DD just turned a year old the other day. The books are great in the evening. In the morning she watches Hi-5 on TLC (it's a 1/2 hour show with lots of songs and dancing). She loves her Leap Frog table (has lots of buttons to play with) and now she loves her little people. The little people we play with together, but I will admit that it's tough for me just to THINK about what to play. We sing and play peekaboo, but how much of that can you really do? My biggest recommendation is just to get out of the house. We go to the gym everyday (our gym has a great child watch that she loves) and then sometimes to the mall where she plays in the kid's area. Just seeing the other kids makes her crazy with joy.

This age is tough. They have such a short attention span.

Oh! I would also let him roam... she is in the kitchen with me on the floor, in her room, our room, the bathroom, she needs the change of scenery, I think.

But, like I said, it's still hard. Nap time is nice. ha ha.

Hi Melissa,

Thank you for your suggestions. It seems such a project, especially since he's getting heavier and heavier, to leave the house, but I think it's a good idea to get out of the house more. I feel a little less guilty. I'm glad I'm not the only who feels that this is a tough age. And you're nap comment made me laugh! I agree! I agree! :-)

No problem!

Once he is off breast milk/formula, you'll spend 99% of your time feeding and/or cleaning up anyway, so don't worry!

One thing about the play areas at the mall... since he is still little, put him on something far away from the other kids. They are like mad men running everywhere and not paying attention.

:)

ps: Are you in Maine? I'm from New England too and I love Maine!

Hi Melissa,

Yes, we are in Maine, Southern Maine to be exact...but what part of New England are you in? Unfortunately, we don't have malls with play areas or gyms with daycare up here. And, the closest mall is about 45 minutes away. You are lucky...

He's not weaned just yet. I'm trying to get him to take from a sippy cup, but he doesn't seem to want to, or from a bottle either. But he really likes to chew on the bottle nipples! :-) So I guess I've got something to look forward to???

Hi!

I grew up in Rhode Island and spent a lot of summers at Hampton Beach. My mom lives in Concord, NH now...but I live in Michigan. We rent a summer house in RI every year to see everyone...and I spend a lot of time missing the ocean.

Your son will get the hang of the sippy cup soon. I would just leave one with Aspen's toys on the floor and she would pick it up and shake it and eventually drink. She would chew on the nipples too, so in the end, weaning her was like nothing at all. As a matter of fact, I was shocked that it was so easy.

It will be nice soon. You'll be able to take him to the park (and to the ocean!)...though the water is always freezing in Maine!

:)
