Hi, My daughter Brooke is 10 weeks old and really has not developed much of a routine. I don't want a rigid schedule for her, but does anyone have any ideas about what her routine/schedule should be like at this age? Any advice is appreciated.

Oh, I forgot to say that I breastfeed incase that helps. Thanks

At ten weeks, she's still on a 'need it/want it' schedule... If she needs fed, feed her. If she needs sleep, she'll give you cues (like rubbing her eyes etc.) you may need to help her sleep by holding her, swaddling her, whatever, or she might nod off better if just placed in her crib (or wherever she normally sleeps) and left alone- if she wants to play, she'll cue you in on that too... Just learn to recognize her cues, as I'm sure you're doing, and go from there. :)

A simple bedtime routine might include a bath, then a change of diaper/clothes, and a feeding followed by some snuggle time... A before-nap routine might be similar minus the bath. Other than that- I don't think there's really much you can do that young... I know DS doesn't follow any specific routine- sometimes he naps during the day, sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he'll nap for four hours or more, sometimes he'll nod off for 15 minutes and that's it for the day... Sometimes he'll sleep for 6-7hrs at a clip at night- other nights I'm lucky if he makes it two consecutive hours in a row *chuckle*. At two and a half months old, the only thing that's "normal" is that every baby is unique and will do things on *their* own schedule ;)

I totally agree with Wytchy.

My son who is also 10 weeks old does have a routine, that he created. I don't push him on anything. And he sure does tell me if he isn't happy doing what he's doing. He doesn't cry but he whines and pouts.

Our schedule:

He wakes up between 6:30-7:30 am for the day

Wants to be fed every 3 hours, ON THE DOT

He takes a morning nap around 11 after his bottle and will sleep until the next bottle

I give him a bath, massage and bottle around 9 pm and he's out for the night. (he does wake up once/night for a small bottle)

If he doesn't follow this, I don't think twice about it. He set this up in the past 2 weeks. Sometimes he naps in the afternoon too. Ya never know. =)
