Hi all

Just needed to tell someone how i am feeling right now. My 10 month old boy (Dylan) is very ill and I feel useless. He has had high temps, vomitting (alot) and has very runny diareeha(sp). he hasn't kept any food down since friday night (it's now Tuesday here) and i am very worried. I did take him to the doctor who said to stop giving him any food (including formula's etc) and gave me a script for some sachets that i am supposed to dissolve in 200mls of water and give him only that istead of his normal feeds for 48hours. That means he won't have eaten anything for nearly 6 days. I am so worried. he is so miserable and sick and i don't know what to do for him. all he wants to do is sleep and be cuddled. he is sleeping in his cot now but he will soon wake up crying cos he is so hungry and all i can give him is that stuff dissovled in water (which mind you tastes horrible).

All i can do is cry for him (or should i say with him) and i feel useless. i give him infant panadol to bring the temp down and that doesn't even help. I am at a loss. what do i do? Please help me as i am an emotional wreck right now. My baby has never been sick before except he had a little cold when he was 6 weeks old. Any advice on what i can do to ease him painand comfort him would be greatly appriciated. i need support.

Thanks for listening, i needed to cry on someones shoudler and DF is atr work right now. and when he gets home has to go straight out the his platoon (for the army) and do his stuff there till 10pm tonight.

Sorry it's long but i just am scared for him and dont know what to do anymore

You need to take him back to the doctor,, you need to call the doctor right now and get him back in in the morning,, it could be the virus called roto virus and they usually hospitilze for that. Your baby could be dehytrated from the vomiting and loose stool, Tell the doctor that he is not any better then the last time and needs to be looked at again,, Good Luck to you and I am sorry you are having a hard time and hope he feels better soon,,

http://www.saferchild.org/dehydrat.htm

here is a site that tells you the signs of dehydration ... that is something to be more concerned about then the fact that he is not eating.

If youdidn't talk to the doctor today I'd definately call even if you have to go thru the answering service ... the doctor can tell you the next step to take or put your mind at ease ...

if all is okay with that and you just have to wait it out then just give him love, your baby will know in his heart thta youa re taking care of him.

((((hugs))))

Seems odd of the dr to do that, since he has not eaten is so long.

I think you should take him back or go to the ER.

I hope he is better soon, and please keep us updated.

Giving the baby anything especially formula or milk products will just upset the baby's stomach. The doctor wants it to rest so it can heal. The tablets the doctor gave you to disolve in water probably are like pedialyte. It has sugar and salt in a correct mixture to help prevent dehydration. I would take him back to the doctor if he can't keep this down.

Did you try Motrin for the temps? I found this works better than tylenol. I've never tryed the medication you mentioned using.

Good luck,

hi i am so sorry your having a hard time i know how you feel its awfull seeing your baby so sick just to reasure you my daughter had the same sort of thing when she was 8 mos old she was also given rehydrate to dissolve all this does is put back fluids the baby has lost due to sickness etc the sleeping is just his way of shutting his body down to fight the virus have you tried disporal for children its suitable from 6 mos and is brilliant for fevers the only other thing is to leave him in a nappy with a loose light cover. as long as he is drinking plenty he should be fine but if you are really worried take him straight to the hospital they may want to keep him in for observation or something i hope he feels better soon good luck and try not to get too stressed cos he will pick up on it and he will also bee stressed.

good luck
