As I've said many times before my in laws and I are very close. Well my MIL is very fluent in french and has been speaking it to Haylei. Not that I mind it is just that I'm not good with french although I can speak it a little I am are no were near as good as my MIL. Ok anyway the thing is I'm worried that Haylei will be confused by the fact the DH and I speak english and my MIL speaks french, does that make sense??!! Please tell me what I should do or please feel free to tell me to shut up and quit acting like a crazy person!!

TIA,

Shelby

Shelby,

We are stationed in Japan and my son was in a Japanese daycare for awhile when I did work and he was learning Japanese quick and he definetly understood english and Japanese. I would say that it is great that your daughter is learning a second language..the younger they are the easier it is for them to learn more than one language. She is definetly not getting confused. Hope this helps.

Do you know that children at a very young age can tell the diffrence between foreign and normal language.

As long as you guys are always speaking to her in English, more then French, I am sure she will know the diffrence.

Kids can amaze you how smart they are. And she will just be better, she will know 2 languages, unlike most kids who only know 1 :)

Hi Shelby,

I agree with the other two. I think that it is great that she will learn another language and it is much easier for them to pick up at a younger age. I live in Quebec, Canada (where everybody is French!) and I do not speak it at all! I wish I had of paid more attention in French class when I was younger! lol We just moved here a little over 2 yrs ago and my 2 children have been picking it up very well. They are not speaking it fluently or anything...lol, mind you they only have French period once a day. But I am happy that they will be learning a second language. I don't believe that it will confuse Haylei at all ;)

i agree. i am teaching my kids spanish and sign language. they are very smart. and if you think about it, when they become adults they maybe able to get a job that they will need to know a different language.
