This is my first time writing in. I have decided to join because I am looking for all the help I can get! My 8 month old has been the best sleeper until now! He has learned to pull himself up to a standing position in his crib and now I can't get him to go to bed. He will be so tired and I will lay him down and the second I start to leave the room he climbs up and starts to cry. Should I let him cry? And if so how long? He does not fall down he just stands there crying. I don't even know if he knows how to get down. He will be fast asleep in my arms because I had to rock him to sleep and then the second I put him in his crib he's up! Any suggestions?????

Hi and Welcome to the board!
I let my children sleep in my room so if that is something you might be interested in, you could try that.
There is a method called the Farber(I think)

When my son was little his Dr told me to let him cry. You can't let them cry for hours, but most of the time they will realize that you are not going to come in and pick them up and will fall asleep in 15-20 minutes. You have to leave their site otherwise they will cry louder.
Also, this may be a little late to try now, but maybe you can use this tip in the future.
Try to put your child (from the very beginning) in the crib to sleep before they are actually asleep. It is very, very important that they learn that they can fall asleep on their own. This tip has helped lots of my friends!!
I feel for you though. I am having problems again with my son sleeping. He used to be a great sleeper until about 10 months ago. He is almost 4 years old and the Doctors feel that there may be a problem so they are scheduling a sleep study. He constantly tosses and turns and he says he doesn't ever want to sleep. I finally get him to sleep, but his constant tossing and turning wakes him up so then when he is awake I'm awake so neither one of us is getting much sleep. Also, sometimes in the middle of the night he goes into his sister's room and he ends up waking her up. All the while my dh is SOUND, I mean SOUND alseep.

Some children just cannot put themselves to sleep or back to sleep.
My 8 month old is that way, he refuses to sleep by himself, I have to rock him to sleep or feed him.
Good luck and I hope he starts going to sleep again on his own.
anyway, just a thought...
Thanks!
Sorry to hear about your little one. I hope your Dr. finds a solution and you get some sleep that you need as well. I am new to this message board thing but I think dh stands for husband and if so I can relate! I think most women can!
Take care and keep me posted on your little ones sleeping problem!
Thanks again!
Thank you!
