shopping for my child's soul

I'm an at-home mom browsing through my daughter's emotions daily. There are so many ties of resentment at not having her way with getting what she wants and thongs of hurt that on that hang on that droopy, melancholy-looking face when we pick her up from pre-school. I can't always know what's going on in that soul of hers. But each night as I read to her or listen to her babble about some boy or girl at school who troubled her, i look into her eyes. I use my sensitivity as cash to pay for her interest to talk, to share hoping that I get value for whatever price tag she puts on my nerves and patience when she wants the next barbie doll. Either way I think I'm satisfied with my purchase-I hang her feelings, her needs like pocketbook on my heart. What else can you in this hype driven, image pitching decade? Wear your life with theirs even when they don't think you understand.
