We painted Daltons room about 4 days ago.
The smell is still in his room. I have lit candles, opened the windows for 4 days straight, even through the night, and its still there.
How long does it take for the smell to go away?
I am not putting him in that room with the smell. I get headaches just being in it for 3 minutes.

Mel,
I think some brands of paint are stinkier than others, but after a few days that smell should go away. I'd keep the window open and have your ds sleep in another room until it's not so smelly. If it gives you a headache, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting a child sleep in there.
Just curious...what color did you paint his room?

We painted it red. I hated the yellow that was up.
We painted it that color before we knew we were having a boy. I was in a hurry

I am gonna use Duron's fume free paint when I do Hanna's room. It is suppose to be environmentally safe too. I'm sure it is probably more expensive, but well worth it to not have that junk in the air.

The weird thing is, I have used this paint before and have never had this problem.
It is just odd for the smell to be lasting this long.

Do you have any stand up fans that you can run and close the door and open up windows?

I have tried running the AC, heater, have left the windows opened for 6 days almost, except at night.
Just don't know what else to do.

Mel,

What kind of paint did you use? Was it oil based or latex?

We just painted every room in our house that we bought, and the next day when we came back, we couldn't smell a thing...except for when we did the kitchen cupboards which were oil based, that reaked.

i would contact the place you bought the paint from, or the manufaturer, that seems odd that after 6 days the odour is still strong. So sorry, that Dalton has been displaced! What brand did you use?

We used Behr Premium Plus.
It says its a deep base, 100 % acrylic latex, peal-like sheen.
We have used Behr before and have never had this problem.
UGH............

I have painted my son's room last week, my staircase to the basement and this morning I finished painting my kitchen. I sponge painted all but the kitchen. I love the smell of fresh paint. BUT my best weapon is pinesol. I pour 1/4 of it into a spray bottle and fill the rest with water. I mop with it, clean walls, counters etc. It smells great and disinfects. The smell lingers too. I have been told to leave vineager in a bowl out. It eats up oder. Boiling cooking vanilla also helps. Good luck. Eileen

I just heard from a friend yesterday that vineager does that.
I am going to give it a try.
