Poor baby has bronchiolitis

I took Jacob to the doctor yesterday, he has bronchiolitis. He is on albuterol, they had gave him a breathing treatment there in the office. I had to hold him and the breathing mask as he squirmed and cried. It was awful. I feel so bad for him. I think he's getting better but he sounds so raspy when he breathes, you can hear all of the gunk down deep in his lungs. I'm just so worried about him. I couldn't sleep last night and then he woke up around 1am, and we couldn't get him back down till after 4am. I'm so exhausted. Has anyone else here had to deal w/this kind of illness? I hope this doesn't mean he may get asthma when he's older. =(

Jenny, I am sorry to hear about Jacob. Aston had RSV when he was 2 months old. I didn't even know he was sick when I took him in, the doctor heard wheezing in his lungs and sure enough the swab came back positive. They gave him a treatment also in the office and sent us home with a neb and albuterol. Maybe Jacob will like it when you give him the treatments at home. Aston likes the treatments (well we haven't had to give him a treatment for awhile now), he looks funny, he just keeps his mouth open and tries to eat the steam (or whatever you call it). The doctor told us that on the 3rd day it gets worse before getting better. Believe me it does get better. Unfortunately he had to be hospitalized after that 3rd day cause the wheezing seemed to be getting worse and because he was only 2 months old. She also said that their lungs do not get completely healed until 6 months after being diagnosed. So we have 2 more months to go. We have been pretty cautious with him getting sick again. This first attack we think was due to being in the church nursery. They taught us a system while in the hospital to keep him breathing better. First put saline drops in the nose and suck out as much as you can (Aston did not have much of a cold, mostly wheezing). Then pat his back (cup your hand) like as if you were playing the bongos...lol. Pat his back to loosen the phlegm and do this for about a good 15 minutes. Then give him a treatment. Like I said, I am sorry you (and Jacob) have to go through this, but believe me it does get better. Just be cautious for the next 6 months if you can. The doc also said that there is a good chance of him getting asthma if the lungs do not heal properly.

My dd had undiagnosed RSV, which later turned into bronchiolitis.

Hi,
It is sooooo not fair for babies or moms to get that sick. It just isn't right.

Keep us updated on how your little one is doing.

two of my kids had asthma as infants. Those breathing treatments don't get any easier! They hated them. I hope he feels better soon, poor guy.
