to potty train puppies? I swear we have tried it all. I keep an eye on the and they still pee right next to me. They just dont care. I tap their noses and tell them bad and then take them out right away.
I will take them out and they go and a ssoon as they get in they go again. UGH
I just want puppies that dont pee 1000 times

Hi,
Here is what worked for us-I grew up having dogs and havve had three has an adult so I am used to housebreaking puppies. We did use crate training but only at night and when we werent home. The first thing I suggest is not to use those puppy training pads nor newspaper. It takes longer for them to get housebroken. Also allow them ample water but only when you can take them right out after drinking it. Puppies tend to pee after a drink, when they have been playing, and after sleeping. It really will seem like every 30 mintues to an hour you will be taking them out. I also used a leash and put it my the back door. I used it just for bathroom breaks but let them have free range in my backyard for play. Also puppies have like 1 minute attention span. So if you see them wander away after beingreally interested in an activity than it could be a signal they neey to go out. Your dog has already probably been giving you his bathroom signals- kind of how like kids do the pee dance :) It up to you to learn them. Hope this helps. I know your dh doesnt approve of the crate method but do you contain them somehwere at night and when your not home? This will eliminate alot of accidents as puppies do not like to go potty where they sleep and eat. Hope this helps. It only takes us about two weeks to train our puppies but we were really diligent and this was before kids!
HTH,
Jennifer

I mostly just lurk here but wanted to third the suggestion for a crate. Our dog had some major issues until we broke down and bought her a crate. She would literally rip my house apart any time we left her here, even with another dog as a companion and she was still peeing in my house EVERY night after about 8 months! I finally decided we were sucking it up and buying a crate, even though we couldn't afford it! We haven't had a problem since. She loves her crate, it is her "spot" and I can leave her there at night and when we go out to make sure there won't be problems but now even when we leave her out over night or when we're gone she doesn't have a problem. I was against a crate initially because we had one when we first got her and she cried while she was in it, but I'm so glad we finally got one! If your husband decides it's okay you can look on freecycle or craigs list to try to find one used that would be free or really cheap. HTH,
Annie

Go get the book Good Owners Great Dogs, i.e.: http://www0.epinions.com/content_57798659716?sp=irev

Crate training is a MUST, not an option or a method. Dogs are a denning creature and it actually makes them feel secure and safe. It is also a possitive tool in house breaking.

This book was just amazing. Have your DH read it cause Lord knows you don't have the time with those kidlets! ;-) I checked it out from the library, but when I get the great dane I'm buying it so I have it for constant reference. Seriously, nobody should be allowed to have a dog with out reading this book first.
