you ladies are so awesome! what a blessing to have such an incredible support system :o)
my head is in a fog from VERY little sleep the last week and all the stress I've been under, and I can't remember what I've told you and what I haven't.
Kyle went in for surgery yesterday morning just after 9am, and had asked over and over if they would shave his head in a mohawk first, take a picture, then finish shaving it the rest of the way. With all the surgeries he's had, he's made that request every time and they never would do it... FINALLY this time they did... and from looking at the pictures, I think they had a little too much fun with it LOL. It was gelled and spiked too LOL.
The OR nurse was awesome... he was the one who made sure they did the mohawk, and he called me just before they started and as they were finishing up just to reassure me of everything.
The operation went wonderfully... they were able to get the shunt out that they wanted and get the new one in it's place. The other shunt would have caused bleeding and brain damage if they had tried to remove it, so that one will stay in permamently.
When he first came back to the NICU, he had started coming out of the anestesia and was shaking so hard b/c he was cold (I know how he felt b/c I did that with my c-sections). They finally got him situated and I was able to go in and see him. I walked over to the bed, smiled, (was crying of course), and just whispered "I love you". He opened his eyes looked at me and tears came down. Then he said "Desiree what's wrong? where am I? what's just happened to me?". Poor baby...
He doesn't remember much of the last week... just bits and pieces. I had to tell him about 20 times yesterday why he was in the hospital and everything that had happened. He was so delerious from the intercranial pressure, he would just say thing that don't make sense. He asked me twice Wednesday how his grandmother was (the one that passed away in July), and yesterday he told me I had an email saying that I had won a bunch of steaks for some upcoming event LOL. I just smiled and said "well that's great!" LOL.
I've had soooo many people calling, emailing, and people coming to the hospital. He has had literally hundreds of people praying for him this week. My friend Juli was just precious... her mom had been through brain surgery a while back so she knows what I've been going through. She's been up at the hospital the last 2 days with me and will probably be back today. She brought me a goody bag with chips, cookies, candy, and a couple of celebrity gossip magazines just to keep my mind off of everything.
I need to run to the store and pick up some groceries, and get a neck bone pillow for kyle... he can't rest his head back b/c of the incision. Then I'm heading back up to the hospital for the day. He kept telling me "just don't leave" yesterday, but I was so exhausted I had to come home for a little bit.
ok now I have the hiccups LOL
He should be home in the next couple of days, so I'll still be pretty scarce for a while so I can tend to him. Thank you all again!!!!!

Glad to hear Kyle is doing ok. So happy to hear he got his mohawk this time. Sounds like a good laugh.
My thoughts are with your family as you go through this difficult time. We are all here to support you and Kyle!! HUGS!
Hugs to you all...I hope all goes well during the recovery process. My aunt had brain surgery, but she had to have a tumor removed that was cancerous. I sat with her through some rough days after, but nothing like I can imagine you guys have gone through. I wish you guys some peace and fast healing.

I hope his recovery goes as well as his surgery. And take care of yourself, too!!

SUch wonderful news to wake up to this morning!! God is great! I'm giggling at the mohawk story - sounds like Kyle's nurse was the perfect fit for him, and has a great sense of humor. Desiree, don't forget to take very good care of yourself over the next couple of days, prior to his release. You need to be strong when he comes home. Your health is just as important. Rest, especially!! I'll continue to pray for his healing.
Huge hugs!!!
Wendy
I'm so happy for you Desiree!
I hope you post a picture of that mohawk
Im soo glad to hear everything went well!
As you know, Desiree, I'm just so relieved things went so well. He is young and strong and will make a full recovery, I'm sure. God is with you two!! We have been praying so hard for both of you.
Love the mohawk story. That's too funny. Did you get a picture? Sounds like something Michael would request, too. I told him and he tought that was so cool. He said Kyle sounds like a lot of fun. It's so amazing that Kyle kept his spirits up and his sense of humor enough to ask for that. Way to go!!
I remember shaking from cold after my C-Section with my twins, too, and I remember Michael telling me it was because my body had been through so much, and was shunting the blood to the area that needed it most (the surgery site). It was horrible, that shaking, and my teeth were chattering. But Michael reminded me that it was my body's efficient way of starting the healing process right away. That's one way to look at it! :)
Your post was just so touching. Your love for Kyle is just so amazing, and beautiful to see. You are one amazing wife! He is so fortunate to have you, as you are to have him. You guys are blessed in many ways. I'm sure it has been your love that has helped him through more than anything else.
Hugs, and our prayers continue. . . It's all up hill from here!!
:)
