Frazzled and Overwhelmed.

Okay ladies...I am taking your advice. I am posting my first real thread here...

I have a 3 yo boy, a 2 yo boy and an almost 6 week little girl. I have been a SAHM for 3 years now, so this isn't new to me...but I AM COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED with 2 toddlers and an infant. All of which are suffering from Upper Respiratory Colds now. None of them want to sleep. When I get the baby down the boys are up...I have a vaporizer in the boys rooms and a humidifer in the baby's room, but honestly I don't really think it is doing much.

We (the kids and I) have been up now for 4 days straight. I am so far behind on everything (laundry, vaccuming, general cleaning). The only thing I have managed to keep up with is the dishes and that's only because my dishwasher is right here next to me.

Here is my main dilemma...my boys have learned to jump on their beds. The problem, they are still in cribs and sound like they are going to fall through the ceiling. They refuse to take even one nap and are now doing the jumping thing in the middle of the night. I am starting to loose my cool as they are waking my newborn up with all the racket not to mention it sets my border collies into a barking frenzy.

HELP! I need ideas--what can I do to stop the jumping and to get them to take at least one nap a day? This whole not napping thing has just occured since they have been ill.

Well, that's my story.
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

oh bless your heart!!! (((((((HUGS)))))))

cold medicine is just awful... it makes kids so hyper. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about a different medication so that you can all get some sleep. You might also think about getting a couple of twin size mattresses and letting them sleep on the floor and gating their room. They're old enough to be out of the cribs, and a mattress on the floor is plenty safe so you don't have to worry about them falling out of bed. Just make sure the room is baby proofed really well and the gate is secure so they can't roam the house in the middle of the night.
Maybe you can try the soothing vapor baby wash before they go to bed, and some soothing music to lull them to sleep.

sending lots of prayers for speedy recoveries!!!!!

I find a shot of whiskey for each of us works pretty well ;)

Melody~

I'm so glad you posted!! Our situations are so very similar and I have yet to find someone who is in the same boat as I am!
I have 5 children 3 of them are under 3. Steven is 27 months, Sean is 25 months and our only daughter (I LOVE being able to say that word :) is 4 months.
Steven gets EXTREMELY hyper when given any kind of cold meds, so when he is sick I either let the poor guy tough it out OR I give him meds after he is asleep...just kinda wake him gently to take it.

Try eliminating the meds, use the booger sucker (yuck) or if they can, have them blow their noses instead.

All three of my babes have a cold too right now. Hang in there, it will get better!
