Sleep Over

Matthew is having a little buddy from school sleep over tonight. This is the first time he's ever had anyone sleep over except his cousins (so the first time for us, since he's our oldest). We invited Tyler over to play today, and they had SUCH a good time all day (except they wouldn't let Justin play with them, so I had to deal with that pout all day). It came time for dinner, and he called his mom to see if he could eat over, and she said fine. About half an hour ago, Matthew went and asked Michael if Tyler could "sleep over" (he thinks Michael's more of a push-over than I am, LOL!). Michael said "Ask your mom", so he did! The look on his face--those pleading puppydog eyes--made me say "Yes."
Am I crazy?? I guess 3rd grade is old enough?! I just hope this kid doesn't get homesick in the night and we have to drive him home at 3 AM!
I talked to his mom, who seems SO NICE, and she said Tyler's spent the night at one other kid's house before. She was happy for him to stay with us. She was going to bring over his 'jamas and toothbrush, etc. but I told her he can wear some of Matthew's and we have extra toothbrushes from the hospital that have never been used and are still in plastic wrap. And Matthew has bunkbeds, so no sleeping bag necessary.
The boys are *so* excited! I guess Matthew's getting to that age: The age of sleep overs. How well I remember! I'm happy to do it, but I will admit between you all and me (and DH) that I'm disappointed in a way, because we planned a Date Night at Home for after the kids are in bed. And while we'll still try to do it, somehow the romance is dampened when our main focus has to be Matthew's little overnight guest. They'll probably be up really late, so I can't really see us taking a whirlpool bath with chilled champagne or anything with 2 giggling boys down the hall, LOL!
Oh well. . . Maybe next week. . . I'll swallow my disappointment so my son can have a good time.

How did the sleep over go?
We have been conteplating having a really good friend of ours son stay over here one night.
It's great that he was having such a great time with his friend and you could let him have the sleepover. We've still not gone on or hosted a sleepover, and Nikki's the same age as Matthew. It's just a matter of time, though, and probably at the next opportunity, if it's a family I know well, I'll say yes.
Hope you found some romance anyway.
PS, A hershey's kiss in your avatar? Why would you want to tease me like that??? ;o)

I can't wait to hear how the sleepover went! I hope they had a good time!
I LOVED sleepovers as a kid.
I think it went really well. No sobbing homesickness at 3 AM. Tyler (Matthew's little friend) is such a polite and cute boy, I'm really trying to foster this friendship. Matthew does not make friends that easily. He's kind of a timid kid, and very introverted, and Tyler kind of seems the same way, so I'm hoping this friendship takes off.
They stayed up pretty late, though. We gave them flashlights and they both slept on Matthew's top bunk together. Michael brought them a huge bowl of popcorn around 11 PM, and I spent like half an hour today vaccuuming up the kernels, and the sheets were full of them too! But at least it was fun for them.
We took Tyler home on our way to church this morning. Matthew has been really tired today from staying up so late, so he's been a bit cranky. Early to bed tonight!
