trying to go to sippy cup- not working!

I need advice. My baby is turning one in a week. I have been trying to get him to use a sippy cup at mealtimes, but he wants nothing to do with it. He will cry and throw a fit until I give him his bottle. I would really like him to start using a sippy cup. My goal is to have him weaned off the bottle by 14 months because I am pregnant and he will be 16 months old when I am due. I would like him off the bottle by then. Any suggestions?

My DD had the same problem.

We tried the Nuby one that Kelly suggested, but we also got the Nuby's with straws.

Agree with Nuby 100% - also dont give into the bottles - throw them away if you need to.

My DD actually didn't like the Nuby's...she does like the Avent training cups though (which have very flat sippy spouts, you do have to "suck" on them some like the Nuby's...and they're spillproof, which is nice).

DD actually doesn't drink that much at mealtimes, she never has...when she's eating, she's eating.

With both of my girls, I simply cut out the bottle and never looked back (admittedly, I nursed one of my DDs, and she rarely had a bottle anyway). I agree with the other posters--toss the bottles and don't look back!

I will say, my first daughter didn't like to drink at meals, either. She had milk about an hour or so after she ate. My second likes to eat and drink at the same time.

I have tried various sippy cups/straw cups with both girls, Playtex has always worked best for us.

Good luck!

As my pediatrician told me to do with my last one - just don't give him the bottle. Offer only the sippy cup...he'll get thirsty at some point and drink from the cup.

I held out as long as I could with him and tried it a few times but I just couldn't bear to hear him cry about wanting his bottle. I finally had enough and just held out a little longer and the little stinker took right to the cup.

Good luck!
