little flowers are that I was wondering about the other day. They are called "pinks". Maybe there's more to the name, but that's all I know, and was enough that I was able to find some today to plant!! DH was walking Maggie last night and ran into another dog-walking-neighbor who identified the plant to him. This is big excitement for our house, DH and I leading such an exciting and glamorous life, dontcha know...LOL Also got some herbs I've been wanting to play with. I went to the neatest little garden center: so many interesting plants and fragrances. It's always so tempting to try some new plants. It's unfortunate that I don't have more of a green thumb, but we'll see how it goes.

DD2 had a nice Easter weekend with her BF and his family. It was his 22nd birthday, and his birthday *cake* was what we call plum pudding, and I thought that was just for Christmas. Well, what do I know anyway, but it struck me as funny, a fruitcake for his birthday cake. LOL But he said he really likes *puddings* so it works for him! DD will have her birthday while he is here this summer, and she has requested an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen! Yum. There are so many foods she was him to try, and places she wants to show him. He has no concept of how really hot it gets here! July and August can be rough. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

DD1 has started her exam preparation. That begins with reviewing and organizing all the material, sometimes alone, and sometimes 3 or 4 of them divide the material up and somehow share it together. That really does seem to work well. But, no matter how it goes, the process seems invariably to end in a frenzy of study and panic and self-doubt. It is rough on her, and rough on DH and me, as well! From what I have heard, this is how it is for lots of law students and their families. Well, she's just got one more year. Along with getting ready for exams, she's still trying to find a place to live this summer in Italy. There are lots of apartments to share, but the city where she'll be is an expensive place to live. She always manages to work things out though, so I'm not too concerned. She attempts fairly adventurous things in life, but she always manages to pull them off very well. It's taken me long enough to grasp that!

I'm feeling a little guilty playing here on the computer when there are still plants waiting, and a kitchen to straighten. Yep, feeling a little guilty. LOL But I'm in no hurry to tackle anything except maybe making myself a nice glass of iced tea. Hope you have all accomplished much today (if you needed to!) and/or just enjoyed a good day. Seren

Hey, walking the dog and planting is a lot more exciting than what goes on around here. I went to the bank earlier and asked DH to stop at the DQ for an ice cream. He announced he was too tired--maybe later. I think he got that excuse from me. He did help some kids put up a basketball net; now I get to listen to that ball banging againt the nextdoor garage and driveway (Whippy). I'm thinking of joining the senior center for some excitement.

Sun is out for the rest of the week. Kathey

There is a flower we call Garden Pinks and they are a carnation type flower..and smell wonderful. http://www.millsfarmplants.co.uk/scented_pinks.htm some pictures.

I love columbine. http://home.earthlink.net/~impeccable/galleries/specialty-f/K31008.htm in all the colors. My grandma used to tell me that they were like little angels flying around the bush..they are so dainty....Janet

"Pinks" so is that a type of Dianthus? A member of the Carnation family? That is what we call "pinks" around here. Seren, it sounds like your house is as about as exciting as ours these days. Not very! LOL! Sounds like DD2 had a nice weekend with BF and family. Was this the first for her meeting his family? I am sure DD1 will do well with her exams. Our DD is always sure she has completely flubbed a test, never does. She gets upset though when she gets an A- instead of an A or A+. Go figure. Such a difference from what she was in high school where she was happy to pull B's and C's and not study.

Hope you enjoy your ice tea. Make mine hot please. Have a good evening! KaCee

Too *tired* to stop at DQ??? Yes, life in the fast lane can be exhausting all right. LOL The Senior Center would probably be too much excitement for me...and I can't quite grasp that *I* am a senior. It just doesn't compute, know what I mean? Glad you have some sun, that'll encourage your neighbor boys to practice their basketball. Uh huh. Seren

Janet, yes, that's what they are, garden pinks, and they do smell so good. Thanks for that site, I need to read up on how to grow them. Maybe I will have some success! I wonder if I've seen columbines? Maybe they grow in a cooler climate? I'm trying to decide where to place my pinks, for maximum perfume enjoyment! Seren

Hey KaCee! The pinks do look just like little carnations, I'm sure your pinks are the same as ours. No, this isn't the first time DD has met his parents; she's stayed at their house a couple of times. They are very nice to her. I wonder what they think of this young love. We're hoping they are encouraging their son in a wait and see, or be patient, or give it time sort of attitude. You never know what the BF or GF is dealing with at home in the way of parental advice. And yes, other DD is never satisfied with her grades, and, unfortunately, law school is giving her fits. She isn't used to being average and gets upset. I'll just be glad when it's all finished. Hey, have you been hearing about the benefits of drinking tea? I don't know if it needs to be hot or not, but if you're a tea-drinker, you're doing good "stuff" for yourself. Is it an anti-carcinogen maybe? DH keeps up with that medical info. I just muddle through. Did you make a paving stone for Peyton? How's your daughter? Don't mean to be too nosy, but I do think about all of you and your loss. Seren

Columbine is well known for drawing humming birds, Janet!

Another name for "pinks" is dianthus.

Those are really pretty. The first ones do look like carnations and the columbine is gorgerous. Some day maybe I will attempt a flower garden.

Seren, DD told me on Saturday, when they came over that she cries everyday over Peyton. I think the worst time is when she comes home from school and Peyton isn't at the door to greet her. She started crying when they arrived here Saturday evening as Peyton was always the first one out of the car and off running. She didn't feel up to making the stone this visit. I have the materials, she can do it when she feels up to it. Thanks for asking. KaCee
